Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) not found by Google Home

Good evening, all,

I have a new Nest doorbell (wired, 2nd gen).  I have two Nest Wifi Pro points.  I have installed my new Nest doorbell and see a solid blue light.  When I try to find the doorbell in (Android) Google Home, I:

  1. Touch Devices
  2. Touch + Add
  3. Touch New device
  4. Select my home
  5. Touch Next
  6. Await while Home searches for new devices
  7. Home says, New Wifi router found
    1. It is not my home, I can see both my Wifi points in Home
  8. I touch Set up a different device
  9. I touch Doorbell
  10. I touch Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)
  11. I scan the QR code, as instructed.
  12. I get the check mark
  13. Home begins scanning and goes back to New Wifi router found (step 7)

At this point, I am in a loop.  I cannot get Google Home to recognize the doorbell.

At one point, I did do a factory reset on the network.

What's one to do?

I had a similar issue on my phone. Problem was i had wifi and mobile data switched on. When i switched off mobile data it connected straight away. Having both wifi and mobile data on sorta confused it.

May not be your problem but sounds like what was happening to me.

Good morning, Fraa,

I tried turning Mobile off, using only Wifi.  Same result.

Thank you for the info.

Hi kenhoml3,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience setting up the Nest Doorbell. I'd love to dig deeper into this issue. What is the make and model of your Android device? How far is the doorbell from the router?

Let's try these troubleshooting steps below:

  • Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  • Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices.
  • Cellular data should be turned off.
  • Reset the doorbell to factory settings.
  • Start adding the doorbell to the Google Home app.
  • Instead of scanning the QR code, tap continue without scanning and enter the setup key near the QR code.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Lance

I have a similar issue with the nest door bell with a twist though.

1)The door bell is close to the router (have fiber) so wifi signal is not an issue.

2) Here is the interesting thing - I'm able to connect to the Nest app no problem but it just doesn't find it on the Google home app.

Could you please help?

Update from OP:
I spent 2+ hours working with support (via chat).  Their final suggestion was to use a different WiFi (i.e., hotspot from cell) and try to make that work.

I appreciate the suggestions here.

I believe it shouldn't be that difficult for a Google product (doorbell) to work with a Google product (Home/WiFi).

End result: I opted for a competitor.  I was able to remove the Google doorbell and have the other up and running in less than 20 minutes.  Unfortunately, I will be returning the Google doorbell.

@Jay999

If your doorbell is the Google Nest Hello Doorbell, then it SHOULD be accessible in the Google Nest app, AND in the Google Home app if you are logging into both apps with the same Google Account and accessing the same Google Nest "home/structure" in both apps.

There are many reports in this forum from customers who have installed a Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E in the Google Nest app, but the thermostat is NOT automatically appearing in the Google Home app as it should.

Many of these customers have corrected the problem by doing the following: In the Google Nest app, create a new Google Nest "home/structure". Go to that new, empty Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Home app and delete it. This apparently forces the 2 apps to sync, and the thermostat then appears in the Google Home app. Perhaps this workaround will also work for your Google Nest Hello Doorbell.
