Nest Doorbell (wired) Gen 2 won't factory

I've had an internet upgrade and need to factory reset my doorbell. I flipped the breaker off and removed it from the mount. I disconnected the wires. Then tried to factory reset the device. I pressed the reset button for more than 20 seconds and nothing happened. I've tried multiple times. I finally gave up and re-installed the hardware. The light is still green. I tried to add it to my Google Home app, just in case I somehow misunderstood that the light should be blue....it won't connect 🙃

Should I have kept the power on? This seems extremely dangerous! There is hardly enough space to connect the wires, and there's definitely not enough distance between the (live wired) terminals and the reset button 🤬

If you're getting a green status light, then the factory reset has not occurred.

Google Nest's instructions do NOT say whether to keep the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell connected to your doorbell wires when performing a factory reset.

For the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell (we have 3 of them), the instructions specifically say "Don't unscrew the wires attached to the back of your camera."

I'd suggest trying with your doorbell connected to power. Doorbell voltage levels are very low, so it's usually not dangerous to touch doorbell wires, though you should avoid doing so.  (You could try putting a piece of electrical tape across the two connecting screws.)  I don't know what to suggest about your short wires; Google Nest doorbells come with wire extenders that can be used when installing them.
