Hi, I have just purchased (about a week ago) a Nest Cam Battery and have noticed that whenever I view a recording, it begins in a laggy way, almost jumping and then the foottage flickers in brightness after about 3 seconds. Sometimes after that the brightness of the footage changes/im[proves slightly. I have also notices jerkiness to the footage from the very start. Wifi strength is good where the camera is, and the footage remains the same even after being downloaded, so it can't be to do with signal stength. Does anyone else have this issue with there camera?

yes, same issue here. Its like the camera is running and then when it detects a person/animal it stutters during the recognition phase and then the quality jumps to better.
I took this to mean its recording at a lower quality initially to save battery/space and then when it sees an object it identifies it ups that to a better quality.
Its annoying... and a bit rubbish really on what is a nice bit of kit. Its more evident at night but it definitely does this at all times.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, how far is your Nest Camera from your Wi-Fi router? How many smart devices are connected to your Wi-Fi network? When the event got recorded were there a lot of users using your internet? Try restarting your Wi-Fi router and Nest Camera then check if you'll still get the same issue. Let us know how it goes.
Regards,
Emerson

Hi Emerson,
The camera is probably about 10 meters from the WiFi router. There are only about 6 devices connected. Only me using the Internet at the time. Router and camera have both been restarted and issue persists with every recording the camera makes.
Thanks

Hi Emerson,
I don't have permission to upload a video unfortunately, but I have uploaded it to YouTube instead https://youtu.be/iMvOAiuEXjM . You can see the car move passed and the footage jumps, then a second or so later the contrast flashes. This happens with every video it takes.

Hello JBODD1,
Thanks for sharing the video. Based on the event, it's a connectivity issue. We highly recommend you to relocate your Nest Camera closer to your Wi-Fi router.
Best,
Emerson

Hi, it works fine when watching live. It is only recordings that are affected.

I've moved the camera to within 1.5m of my router (running at 150mbps download and 30mbps upload speed) and it's doing exactly the same thing as when it's outside.
09-11-2023 07:44 AM
exactly the same here. Router is pretty much on the other side of the wall to the doorbell.
Doesnt matter if anything or everything is connected, like in the video below there was no one at home to use the internet so it was probably the only device connected.
Video stutter and white flash
this is a thing that can be replicated on each video, it happens every time without fail so its not a one off.

I've ordered a replacement camera from Google. Should arrive in a day or two, so it'll be interesting to see if it has the same issue or not?!

i wouldn't get your hopes up, my camera/doorbell is only 2 months old 😞

Hey everyone,
@JBODD1, we're glad that your replacement is on its way. Let us know if you're still in need of assistance.
@Super_paulie, do you also have the Nest Camera (battery)? If so, try resetting it to the factory default and monitor its behavior.
Regards,
Emerson

@EmersonB @Super_paulie Still the same with the new one, even when setting it up within 6 feet of the router.
Maybe it's a software issue!?
I had one in May this year (which I returned to Amazon as I decided to wait for a better deal), and I had no issues with that one.

its obviously the new firmware

loads of issues and the timeline fits what you say about your other one?

Hello folks,
@JBODD1, have you tried resetting it to factory default? In case not, you may visit our public article here about "Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell".
@Super_paulie, do you have a Nest Aware subscription? Have you checked if your recorded events have the same issue?
Let us know your update here.
Thanks,
Emerson

Yes I have Nest Aware.
Made no difference as it still did the same before I had the subscription and it's no different now I do.

Hi Super_paulie,
Thanks for getting back to us. We would recommend you to relocate your Nest Camera and check the difference. Also, please restart your Wi-Fi router and Nest Camera. Let us know how it goes.
Best,
Emerson

Relocate the router to closer than the other side of the wall to the doorbell? If it was any closer it would be literally inside the wall... as the crow flies it's about 60cm away from it.

yes, have already tried a factory reset. Made no difference whatsoever im afraid.
