Nest cam with floodlight white base stuck to metal mount

I am in the process of mounting my new Nest cam with floodlight. I turned my back for a moment while a friend was looking at the camera mounts. The mounts are two pieces; one white one, to which you mount the camera, and one silver metal piece that you mount to your house. My friend snapped these two pieces together for some unknown reason and now we can't get them separated so that I can mount the camera and floodlight.

How do you get these two pieces apart from one another? I can't mount the camera and floodlight with them being conjoined.

Turned out it didn't really matter, I was able to get it mounted and setup without issue. If anyone figures out a solution to this problem though it would be great to post that in this thread. I'm sure others will mistakenly do the same thing in the future.

So I watched a youtube video on mounting the spotlight cam and it turns out that big "S" shaped hook is only used to temporarily hang the light on the mounting bracket (so it doesn't fall to the ground) so that you can free up both hands to connect the 2 power wires.  Once connected you remove it.

Hello there,

I have yet to see this issue thus far with the Nest Cam with Floodlight (wired) being a brand new product, and I am sorry to hear that that happened! I can imagine that was quite frustrating to handle. I am wondering if you would be able to post a picture of this situation? I believe I understand what you are stating, but having a visual would really be helpful.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

If it is like their other cameras look for a small whole where you insert something like a paperclip to hit the release button.  They usually supply a small tool in the box to let you do that.

There is an S-shaped tool in the kit they refer to as "S hook" but I have no idea what it is for. I don't see any small whole to insert anything that will hit the release button, which I also have no idea what that is at or if it even exists on this mount. On one side of the white camera mount is a screw hole but that is used to secure the floodlight assembly to the mount. This is quite perplexing. I'm imaging a room full of hardware engineers at Google looking at this thing and thinking "huh, we never imagined anyone would do that!"  lol

Let me tell you... It is hell to separate those two pieces!!! I have installed several, and I really don't know why they even have that snapping plate, since the 4 screws hold it to the plate anyway. Just another design flaw. In fact I would move before I tried to take one down!!  The "S-Shape" tool has nothing to do with what you are talking about.

You have to get a thin screwdriver and find the tab on each small section that has "snapped" and pry them apart. The bad thing is that even once installed, it is virtually impossible to get them all to snap anyway.

I figured that might be the case, that you practically have to destroy the mounts to separate them. That's both good (for security/anti-theft) and bad (once they are married there is no divorce!). Anyway, glad I was able to mount the floodlight and camera even when those two pieces married together. I'm sure it's not a professional job but it is very tight to my house siding and everything works.

No assistance needed by me. Google Nest's Quality Assurance may need some assistance.
