Nest doorbell battery charging

JoePlain
Community Member

Just bought and installed the nest doorbell (battery) last week. So far I love it, but one question I had deals with charging: My battery was at 27% yesterday according to the app, but then when I checked it again today, the app says "plugged in", and it has an infinity sign where the % used to be. I've only got the doorbell connected to the chime, so I didn't think I'd get any kind of charge, but apparently I am. Do I need to worry about charging it?

@JoePlain

If you connected your battery doorbell to your existing doorbell wires, then it is connected both to your chime and to your transformer. See the wiring diagram on this post (ignoring the chime connector part, which is used by the older Nest Hello doorbell but NOT the battery doorbell): https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Wiring-diagram/m-p/24455

The battery doorbell runs off the battery at all times and is trickle-charged if connected to your doorbell wires; see this Google Nest Help page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989?hl=en

Hey folks!

Thanks for your help Steve, Brad and MplsCustomer.

JoyceM, I'm sorry that you're experiencing this. No worries, we'll figure this out together. You may use the power cable that comes in the box to charge your Nest Doorbell Battery. For your better understanding on how to install your Nest Doorbell Battery wire free you can check this YouTube video.

Thanks,

Can someone just tell me how do I charge the battery with the charger?  I think I am going back to the Ring Door Bell.  Had no trouble charging the battery.
