Nest doorbell peeling peeling off

Nest doorbell started doing this and it's looking very bad. This was not a removable cover that's supposed to be taken out after installation. I was able to scrap off some of the peel but it looks like a design issue that the team has to look into.

This has been happening to my Nest doorbell as well. I thought I had just forgotten to take the plastic protector off, but that's not the case.

I think the design team knows about it.  With your post, there are now 305 threads about "peeling" Google Nest Hello Doorbells in this forum and 41 threads about "delaminating" Google Nest Hello Doorbells. One of our Nest Hello doorbells--21 months old--is peeling. That Nest Hello and another one of ours also won't ring the internal chime anymore due to a failing internal battery (another defect with hundreds of posts here in this forum). It certainly seems both problems are clearly known defects. Yet in spite of all these reports Google Nest says they "cannot" replace them if they are more than one year old. "Cannot"?? It seems rather they will not do anything.

You could. of course, try contacting Google Nest Support at https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?hl=en to see if they say anything different in your case.

In previous posts, I have suggested that customers with Nest Hello doorbells that are peeling--or failing to chime due to a failing internal battery--be given a discount on a new, RE-DESIGNED Google Nest Hello Doorbell (NOT the new battery doorbell) that has a user-replaceable internal battery obtainable from Google Nest and that corrects the susceptibility to peeling. So far, no one from Google Nest has responded to this suggestion.

Its just poor design and workmanship. I called Support and they wouldn't cover it as its past their 1 year period. The device got heated up and is a brick at the moment. I am thinking its due to this wrapper causing a heat seal. Similar to how your charger would heat up quicker if wrapped up.  Typically they would honor the warranty and replace it. Kinda dissapointed they wouldn't replace it. Need to look for a new doorbell. Any recommendations? I am thinking something other than google. 🙂

Hey there,

I am sorry to hear that Support wasn't able to assist you with a replacement. You can find some silicone sleeves online that you can put over your doorbell if you wish. I wish there was more that we could do for you, but if the device is out of warranty, we cannot issue a replacement. If you have any further questions, please reach back out to Support.

Best Regards,

Brad
