Nest doorbell people hearing me

Hello. I have Google cameras and the nest battery doorbell. I can talk to people through my cameras on the Google home app. But people can't hear me through the doorbell. So that means the security settings on my phone are accepted for the microphone or the app wouldn't work for the cameras. I checked on and off the setting in the doorbell for the microphone thinking it would "reset it" but I can't talk to people through the doorbell and that is now becoming frustrating. Please help. Thanks!!
