Nest doorbell wired 2nd gen not announcing or recording

Our Nest doorbell was showing as offline so I did a factory reset.

Since then, the camera is showing the live feed, but the doorbell is not chiming in the house or announcing on the speakers (which is turned on in the Google Home app).  It is also not recording any events even though there have been parcel deliveries.

Up until the reset, we never had any issues and I can't figure out what is going on!!  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Following. My visitor announcements worked the first week and now are gone.

Have you checked to see if you have DND on the speaker?  That was my issue - I must have somehow turned it on!

Hi  jillp1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry your Google Nest Doorbell 2 Gen is not chiming and announcing on the speakers, nor is it recording any events. I appreciate your efforts to get it working again by factory resetting it. Let’s work together to find a solution! To gather more details, I’d like to ask the following questions:

  • Is your Google Nest Doorbell 2 Gen getting enough power?
  • What is the current temperature where you live?
  • Have you had any power outages recently?

Let me know if you have any additional information; it’ll be helpful.

Best regards,
Juan

  • Hi and thanks for the response.

Since my post, I have been able to get everything working again, except for the chime.  I've checked the connections on both the actual doorbell and on the indoor chime part and everything seems to be ok.

To answer your questions:

  • I believe there are no power issues, but not sure how to check this
  • We have had lower temperatures lately (I live in Canada!) but we've never had issues with the chime not functioning.
  • We did have a power outage the other day but that was after the issues had already started.

I am thinking that maybe after factory resetting, it just took awhile for the recordings to restart, and I had the speaker on DND which explains why I wasn't getting the announcements.  Now it's just the mechanical chime that I need to figure out!

Thanks,

Jill

Hi jillp1,

Thanks for the follow-up and the detailed information. I'd appreciate it if you could confirm that the following settings are properly configured:

1. Ring indoor chime is enabled and Quiet Time is disabled, here's how to check it:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap favorites or devices.
  3. Tap and hold your doorbell's tile.
  4. Select more.
  5. Tap settings.
  6. Tap Doorbell.
  7. Check that the ring indoor chime is set to on.
  8. Tap more
  9. Select quiet time.
  10. Tap Cancel if it's active.

2. Check if the doorbell and chime connector wires are securely connected. Before checking this, please ensure the following steps are taken:

  1. Turn off the power source of the doorbell at the breaker box.
  2. Remove the doorbell from the backplate.
  3. Tighten the screws that hold the wires with a screwdriver. Make sure the ends of the wires don't touch each other or the base plate. Trim the wire ends and bend them if needed.
  4. Turn the power back on.
  5. Press the doorbell's button to test the chime.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
Juan

Hi Juan,

Thank you for your detailed response.  I have checked the connections both on the doorbell outside and on the chime indoors and everything seems secure.  Still no chime though!  Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jill
