The doorbell is more than 5 years old.
It does not ring outside anymore. If pressed multiple times, it will ring the indoor chime but still does not ring outside.
In the afternoons, the doorbell faces direct sunlight.
Any way to check and fix it? high-temperature damages internals?
Is it time to replace it with a new one (wired, 2nd gen)?

Is your Nest Hello also going offline for a minute whenever the doorbell is pressed?
If so, the cause may be that the internal battery (which most of us didn't know about) is failing. That's happened to all 3 of our Nest Hello doorbells. A workaround is to turn off the "Indoor chime" option and turn on the "Visitor announcements" option (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451) and rely instead on announcements on Nest Minis or Nest Hubs. Once the "Indoor chime" option is disabled, the doorbell no longer goes offline when it is pressed.
Here's a VERY long thread on the problem:

Thanks. It’s indeed offline after pressing button. I don’t have other devices to ‘announce ’ . The new wired one appears to be good price. I’m thinking of getting one.

You can get a Nest Mini for $39 to $49, depending on the retailer.

I added it to Alexa. Hope it works. Thanks @MplsCustomer

Hi d8ve, I'm a long time nest cam user and sadly I cannot recommend the new doorbell. You are better off buying another Nest HELLO doorbell either new or used from an ebay seller or where ever.
The reason is the new doorbell does NOT work in the Nest App at all. You are required to use the Google HOME app for the newer doorbell and it lacks a lot of features compared to the Nest App. Google is in the process of bringing the features over to the Google Home app but as best I can tell they are still very far away from that. Also, the Google Home app will not work well with the older Gen 1 Nest cameras so if you have those as well then you will need to bounce back and forth between the 2 apps.
When my HELLO doorbell mal-functioned about 6 months ago I got the new one and ended up returning it and going with another HELLO doorbell. I'm looking forward to the day when I can upgrade but for now I'm staying with the NEST app.

Thanks for the advice. I have bunches of Nest original cams, thermostats. And I also noticed Nest App has far more features than G Home.
