Nest (wired) Doorbell

Kancel

I have an iPhone 13 and Nest doorbell. When I first hooked up my wired Nest I'm sure I could hear ringing on my phone when someone rang the Nest. It seems now that is not happening. Is this a setting I have wrong or has this feature been removed?

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing up the concern you're experiencing, I would love to look into this further for you. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to restart your device. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally. I would also check to make sure that your 'Visitor Announcements' option is enabled. Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
Brad

Hey folks,

Brad, appreciate your helpful response.
Kancel, chiming in to ensure everything is good here. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best,
Mel

Maybe I'm misunderstanding how this works. Do I need to have this app running active to hear anything on my iphone? It appears that with the app running active I get immediate cut-through to video when the nest doorbell is pressed. My home chimes ring every time it's pressed and I get doorbell chime at the nest itself no matter the app status.

Hi Kancel,

I suggest not closing the app in your phone's background.

Thanks,

Mel

Mel,

I left the app open and when the nest doorbell is rung I hear the chime at the doorbell, hear the chime in my house and get an immediate connection on my iphone to the app giving me video and audio access to the nest allowing me to converse to the person at the door.

I get the PUSH notification tone on my phone but no ringing.

If this is FAD (Functioning as Designed) then so be it, but I could swear that I at first heard ringing on my phone. I did replace my old Android phone around the same time, could it be the nest works differently between android and iPhone?

Thanks for your help.

@Kancel

Thanks for your help, @mel

Getting a push notification is normal, especially if your doorbell is still chiming if someone pushes the button. You can turn off those notifications in your settings if you do not want them.

I understand PUSH notifications, my original post concerned getting ringing on my iPhone when the nest doorbell was pressed.

Hello folks,

@Kancel thanks for getting back to us. It seems like you are referring to the ringtone when someone presses your Nest Doorbell. It's not with the Nest app or Google Home app, it's more like your notification ringtone settings on your mobile phone. I would suggest you go to the settings of your mobile phone> look for your Nest app or Google Home app> go to notifications or ringtone then check if it's enabled.

Keep us posted.

I appreciate the help, Brad and Mel.

Best,
Emerson

Thank you for your response.

My iPhone 13 only shows :sounds on/off for the Nest app in settings. Other apps, such as Mail allow selection of notification sound, but Nest is only on/off.

Thank you for your patience while waiting for a response from our team. As long as your notification sounds are on and off and you have all the options selected in your iPhone settings, you should be able to receive audible alerts. Have you tried to hold down the factory reset button for more than 30 seconds? I would suggest doing a factory reset if you have only done a restart. Please let us know.

Thank you for your help here, Emerson!

Brad
