New wired gen 2 doorbell drops video when rung

I have two new, google nest gen 2, wired, doorbell cameras. The video goes black when rung. This has been happening since i installed them. There are many complaints about this on here, but i don't see any solutions.

The network isn't an issue. I have moved them and the network and network booster around to within 1 foot of each other and it still drops out, for about a minute, the second the doorbell button is pushed.

Hello @Kdavis1280,

Thank you for posting on the community. I understand the issue you are experiencing with your two Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) units when the video stream drops and goes black after the doorbell button is pushed on both devices. Thanks for troubleshooting your network connection, moving the doorbell, network, and booster to within one foot of each other, and confirming the issue persists on both new doorbells. Let me help you with this.

Since we've ruled out the network, the intermittent power draw when the chime is activated is the next most likely culprit. To help us confirm this and identify the exact step needed to fix it, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What is the voltage (V) and VA (wattage) rating of the transformer that powers your doorbells?
    • This is usually found on the transformer itself, often near your fuse box or chime box. The 2nd-gen wired doorbell requires 16-24 V AC and 10-40 VA.
  • LED Behavior: When you press the doorbell button, can you detect any LED lights coming from the camera—specifically, does the status light change color or turn off when the video drops?
  • Error Message: When you view the live video feed in the app, do you see any error messages right before the video goes black?
  • Video/Screenshot: Would you be able to provide a screenshot of the camera feed just before or as the dropout happens, or a brief video showing the issue?

Please provide the details on your transformer voltage/wattage and the questions. That information will be key to moving forward!

Regards,

Kevin
