No announcement on Hub of Google doorbell

Zwets

Hello,

I have a Google doorbell that when it is rung annouces itself on all my devices that have the Google Home app installed. However it's not announced on my Google Hub 2nd gen. At first i thought it was the Hub 1st gen that I first had and a such bought a 2nd gen. No difference. I am also still unable to stream the live video from my doorbel on the Hub. That issue was also present on the Hub 1st gen.

I contacted support before but they were unable to help me. I reset all devices many times. It does not help.

"Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451) from Google Nest doorbells should go to ALL Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and Nest speakers in the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Wi-Fi network unless they are set to "Do not disturb". In fact, a chronic complaint in this forum is that there's no way to get "visitors announcements" on selected speakers. And you should be able to livestream all Google Nest cameras and doorbells from any Nest Hubs that are in the same Google Nest "home/structure". That's how it's worked for us for the last couple of years, ever since we've had Nest Hubs.

I see you've posted several times on related issues, including missing settings on your battery doorbell, being unable to see your thermostats and Nest Indoor Camera in the Google Home app, and being unable to delete empty Google Nest "homes". Is there anything unusual about your Wi-Fi network that could be contributing to these issues? For example, I've seen posts from customers who've had issues with their Google Nest devices because they're using a VPN.

I dont think there is anything unusual. I have Apple access points and use 2 different SSID's. All nest devices are on the same SSID. I have tried the other ssid. No other devices on my wifi have any issue. That includes Windows, Apple and ChromeOS devices.

@Zwets

Are your Nest Hub and doorbell in the same Google Nest "home/structure"?

This may not tell you anything, but if you select Settings on your Nest Hub, and select "Device information", what Wi-Fi network does it show? Is this the same SSID you're using on your phone when you open the Google Home app and view your doorbell?

Yes they are both in the same Home and on the same SSID. On my phone I can be on any SSID (i have three of them) and will work.

@Zwets

I don't have any further suggestions. I am not a network expert, but I think that having 3 SSIDs with the phone where you're running the Google Home app having access to all 3 could cause problems.

And this Google Nest Help page says "The Google Home app supports only one Wi-Fi network per home, but you can create up to 5 homes with a single Wi-Fi network in each. However, using multiple Wi-Fi networks at the same location can cause interference if their coverage overlaps."

I would have to agree with user MplsCustomer, as it sounds like you could easily run into some complications if you're using multiple devices connected to your SSID.

Best regards,

Brad

It's probably outdated software, or maybe the device needs to be factory reset. That's what I figure.

@Zwets

I know that you stated you restarted your devices, but have you tried to factory reset them after only using 1 SSID?

Brad

I have factory reset both devices several times. We use 1 SSID for al devices now. When the doorbel is rung the Hub now is also alerted however I am still not able to see the video stream on the Hub. I can see the video stream on my iPad and iPhone.

Have you attempted to view the cameras from the hub and it wont load? Or do you simply not know how to view your cameras on the hub? Thank you for providing clarification thus far.

Best regards,

Brad

@Zwets

If Settings | Device information on your Nest Hub shows the same SSID as your doorbell, I don't know why you cannot select your doorbell on your Nest Hub and livestream it. Is your doorbell offline or "Idle"? If so, are you unable to get it to come online or "Live?"

Thank you. All devices are now on 1 ssid. Still the same issue.

@Zwets

Can you view your doorbell's camera from your Nest Hub? Can you livestream all of your cameras and doorbells on the "preview"/beta home.google.com website?

Yes that works. Only thing it does not work on my Hub

I cannot see the stream on my Hub. It says Video Stream Not Available"

There does seem to be some communication as I can see the battery status of the doorbel.

@Zwets

Then perhaps your battery doorbell is defective, or even inherently flawed.

A few days ago, I asked Google Nest Community Specialist @Brad  whether Google Nest had a fix for customers whose Google Nest battery doorbells will NOT send "Visitor announcements", but he has not yet responded.

@Zwets

I've seen other posts where customers with a Google Nest battery doorbell cannot get "Visitor announcements" to work on their Nest Hub, but I have not seen a resolution or explanation.

@Brad , does Google Nest have a fix for customers whose Google Nest battery doorbells will NOT send "Visitor announcements"?
