No assisting Nest devices to connect wired doorbell to.

Purchased the Nest wired doorbell, have it wired to the chime. Blue light, press button, doorbell rings. Have Google Home, but home states I need to set the doorbell up in the Nest app. Installed Nest app, prompted to add device, scan QR code, run through the steps. App doesn't detect doorbell, app then goes to look for an assisting device -- I don't have any other Nest devices. Setup fails.

I see that the wired doorbell has some form of USB port in its back. Is there a way to connect this to Wifi from a laptop connection? Or maybe a Bluetooth option?

I've already reset my doorbell/router/modem.

I'm just another customer who fortunately has not encountered this problem. However, there are many posts in this forum about customers encountering problems connecting to an "assisting device". There is clearly an issue here that Google has not been able to fix.
