Nov 4, 2025 both Google App and Home.google.com have become unusable in the last week.

Just wondering if other people are running into this problem.   I now have (8) cameras in the Google Home App.  A combination of Gen 1 and two Gen 2 cams.  Everything was working mostly okay but about a week ago the system because unusable.   I'm so discouraged.    When I launch the Google Home app in my iPhone and select a camera 90% of the time It won't show the live image. All I get is the spinning arrow.  And I can see all the recorded clips in the time line but as soon as I select a clip to view the app just HANGS completely and I can't do anything.   So then I go to my Mac and to Home.Google.com to view my cams and the same sort of problems happen.  At the opening screen I see the squares for all my cams but each of them has the endless spinning arrow and never populates the images.  When I click on a camera to view it 90% of the time it won't work.  I have tried both SAFARI and CHROME and the exact same problem happens.  And yes I have rebooted EVERYTHING multiple times.

I have spent a lot of time trouble shooting this at my end and I'm exhausted.   Does anyone know if this is wides spread problem?   Are any of you out there running into this?

Comments are appreciated as I really at my whits end.

Hi, I’m having all the same issues as you. I use the iphone 15 pro max and iPad Pro 5th generation for viewing my cameras. What devices are you using? I’ve been wondering if the apple products are the culprit and thinking of switching to a different tablet. I also have 8 cameras that are basically worthless as they are not viewable 80% of the time

I really think this is a google back-end issue because when I go to HOME.GOOGLE.COM on my mac using either SAFARI or CHROME I get the exact same behavior.   Can you try it on a computer and let me know what you find.    One of the cool things is it shows all cameras at once all streaming in realtime.  But I end up getting the endless spinning wheels there as well.

We are NOT having these issues with untransferred 1st gen indoor and outdoor cameras and a 2nd gen battery camera and a 2nd gen indoor camera with iPhone 16s or our iPad Pro 6th generation running iOS 26.1 and Google Home 4.2.45 or on the home.google.com website (for 2nd gen cameras) or on the home.nest.com website (for 1st gen cameras) with Firefox or Chrome, with an Xfinity router/modem and Linksys routers used as access points.

Thanks Mpls,  I was on the phone with Google support for 2 hours today.  first with Level 1 and then with a level 2 person.  They were screen sharing my iPhone and saw all the problems.  I had to leave after 2 hours but they are escalating this and said they will get back to me in a day or so.

EmptyNester, did tech support ever get back to you?

@Rall1216 ,  Hello, the answer is no they did not.  But the good news all my cameras are suddenly now working MUCH better so they must have fixed something.  They started working about 2 hours after I hung up with them.  They still are not working 100% but the difference is definitely noticeable.

I really want these to work because the new Gemini is a major game changer for me.   I have not gotten a single false person alert.  And now I get alerts that say things like "Person is trimming a hedge".   Person in green vest walked up driveway.   And at 4AM it said "Raccoon spotted eating out of a dish"  All of these were 100% correct.

I had started to migrate to EUFY but the software is terrible.  But now that Google has added Gemini I am 100% moving forward with Google again and will sell my older cams and get the new Gen 2 outdoor cams in the coming weeks.   I not longer have any cams in the NEST app.

I’m glad to hear you got some help. I will have to try to connect with tech support and see if I can get any help. Judging by all the similar complaints on this issue it seems like it is hit and miss getting an experienced technician.

Yes, I think it is worth giving it a try.  The more they have phone contact the more they will get the idea that something is wrong that needs fixing.    One thing I have learned is that using my SAFARI and CHROME browser the problems of the spinning wheels are still happening.  But I tried launching FIREFOX and it is so much better.  The screens populate very quickly and the spinning wheels of death almost never  happen.

on my Mac using google home website I get spinning wheels forever sometimes works but mostly doesn’t also freezes my WiFi which is 1gb download 300mg upload. Didn’t have this issue before the update. I hope they fix it. All my cameras  Works fine on google home app on iPhone or even my basic Lenovo tablet runs all the cameras great through google home app. But website through Mac safari is absolutely an issue right now.

Just for testing can you try using either FIREFOX or CHROME and see if the problem goes away?   It would help to know if this is a  SAFARI-ONLY problem or not.

@EmptyNester

On my end, I don't see your issue with Firefox, Safari, or Chrome.

However, with Firefox the home.google.com website STILL has the annoying defect that I first reported in June 2024, where ALL cameras and doorbells--1st and 2nd gen-- always initially display with a false "Camera idle" message, and you have to click on "Live video" to get a live feed. In addition to sending "feedback" to Google Nest, here are my two previous posts on this issue.

July 2025: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/quot-home-google-com-quot-STILL-falsely...

June 2024: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Home-google-com-falsely-reports-all-cam...

Wow,, that is interesting.  I have never gotten the "Camera Idle" message with Firefox.

EmptyNester, I switched to Firefox and viewing greatly improved for several days. Except for today “loading video history” stopped working from 0700 to 1900. Now it seems to be working again. I could see live video only. Thanks for the Firefox tip.

Good that you also get improvement with Firefox.  The helps point to Safari having a tuff time with Home.Google.com.   I have seen the "loading video history" but it always loaded everything correctly.

@EmptyNester

That is curious. The "Camera idle" message began appearing on my M1 iMac with Mac OSx Sonoma 14.5 in June 2024, and persists with Mac OSx 26.0.1 Tahoe. Perhaps its some setting that is causing this, but I have no idea which one.

I have a Mac Mini M2 Pro running 15.7.1.   I have not upgraded to Tahoe yet.

A google search says this:  "Camera Idle" This is a known issue where the home.google.com website incorrectly shows cameras as "Idle" on the first launch in Firefox, even when they are live. The problem is likely due to a conflict with Firefox's settings or a bug with how the site interacts with the browser. To fix this, you can try disabling Firefox's Efficiency Mode, checking and clearing camera permissions in your browser settings, and making sure you are using the latest version of Firefox.

@EmptyNester

There is no "Efficiency Mode" in FIrefox on Mac OSx.  That's apparently a Windows setting.  On my first post, the Google Nest Support person suggested this, which is probably where Google's AI is getting this false suggestion from.  Google's AI yields a lot of false suggestions for Google Nest's products.
