I've had a nest doorbell for a few years now and the quality of the live feed and recordings via the Home app has always been good.
However, I've noticed recently that the live feed footage in the app has drastically decreased and is very pixelated. The recordings are still of a high quality so its not showing on there.
My internet is of a decent standard and wasn't an issue before so not down to poor coverage/bandwidth.
I've tried rebooting the camera and changing a few settings but no change.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I assume its been down to a firmware upgrade to either Home app or the camera.

Hi folks,
The team has started to roll out a software update that addresses the issue causing some Nest camera and doorbell users to experience lower quality video while live streaming in the Google Home app.
Your devices will be automatically updated and there is no action to take. All Nest cameras and doorbells will receive the update over the next one to two weeks. I’ll hop back into this thread to confirm once the software update has reached all users.
With the new software update, it is intended that when selecting your camera in the Google Home app, your camera’s live stream might begin at a lower resolution to get your stream started as quickly as possible, and will switch to a higher resolution after a moment. The quality of recorded video history is not affected.
In the meantime, you can check if you’ve received the fix by verifying the build number for your cameras. Do this by tapping the camera in Devices or Favorites > Three dot menu > Settings > Device Information. If you’ve received the fix, the last 6 digits of the build number should be 422270.
We appreciate all of your patience.
Thank you,
Kelan

Hey everyone,
We understand some folks on this thread are still having issues with camera live stream quality. As reported on 07/09/2024, we resolved the specific issue that was causing live stream quality to be stuck in low resolution. The fix was released as part of a firmware update.
As there are many factors that can affect live stream quality, we recommend that you confirm your cameras and app are updated to the latest version. If you’re still experiencing trouble, you can check out the additional troubleshooting steps in this help center article. If you’re unable to resolve your issue from there, please contact our support team to take a deeper look.
Thank you for your understanding.

I'm not letting this thread die, much to the dismay of Google. I encourage all of you to keep on voicing your displeasure and to contact tech news sites.

Mines still poop. Have even switched with my isp to a static IP to see if that made a difference and it did not.

No differences here, Static IPv4 (real ipV4 not routed) and static ipv6
Ipv6 only tested ipv4 only tested, dual tested. No differences.
1Gbit up and download
AP is on the other site the wall where the doorbel is 40cm drom the doorbel. Its definitie an Google issue

For others still going through this drama:
* get in touch with citizens advice, get this logged
* they'll advise you around your consumer rights act of 2015 and send a template you can send to Google
* In parallel, contact your credit card company and raise a section 75
Clearly the only way to get any attention to this issue is to appropriately and legally - well within our rights - get refunds and/or a permanent fix - at least SOME comms from google rather than a piss poor response we've seen here.

It’s baffling that Google has seemingly made no effort to address these persistent issues. My doorbell is essentially useless. This is not a WiFi or internet problem, not a power issue (it’s a wired doorbell), and not a configuration mistake on my end. The problem lies entirely with Google. There’s absolutely nothing I—or anyone else—can do to fix it.
The doorbell responds quickly (7/10 times) when there’s no motion detected, but when someone steals a package? Good luck. Your camera will show “no events found,” or if you’re lucky enough to have an event recorded, it won’t capture the critical moment. And forget about relying on the paid 24/7 recording service. It captures little to nothing of actual importance—especially the moments you’d hope it would.
It’s absurd that Google charges such high fees for a product and service that offer so little accountability. Your lack of action is not only disappointing—it’s a clear sign of a company in decline.

Today get an mail, that the Google actions has moved,
And today the Doorbel is working really fast also, in not one second i get an picture if i open the live feed. I hope ot wil stay working like today

Lucky! :). I just tested mine and it is still taking 30seconds or more before live view finally switches to full resolution instead of low-res garbage on a 350mbps fiber connection.

In my case the video starts within second, (low Quality) and after around 3 seconds it switch to high resolution.
Thats OK for me,
The stream starts fast, (i have video) and after some seconds i get the High resolution,
But before i had the same after the stream was started, before it had taken until 15 seconds to start the stream, but if it was started some seconds later i had the high resolution.
Main problem was the long time to get anything stream, and get notification if someone rings the Doorbel.
Now the stream problem is in my case solved.
Now an fix to get good quality video at night, and solve the "flikkering" Problem sometimes it flikkering verry fast.
But for now it begin to be usable as an Doorbel, (it rings and one second later o see the video stream on the nest hub2)
I hope google wil improve the rest and it wil be an nice device.
Have an 1Gbit fiber glass connection (upload and Download), and the nearest AP is on the other site of the wall where the Doorbel is, i think if google wil enable 5GHZ on the Doorbel it wil also improve the Connection speed to the doorbel it self.

Mine is still garbage. Sometimes, the quality NEVER improves, and I have to back out and go back in.
Just absolute crickets from Google, so pathetic.
Saturday
Firmware version 1.75 OPENMASTER 440524 is rolling out...
Any fixes for the issue in this topic?
Saturday - last edited Saturday
But for now it seems the video over day is improved (colours)
Reaction from ringing the doorbel is also improved, the video stream on pushing the doorbel button is about one second on the nest hub2 (now tested) thats good.
But wil see if there are some kinds of bugs after some time...
For bow it Looks good for me
Video starts Fast, after 2 seconds it switch to high resolution.
For now Video Quality seems OK.
But wil try @Night today if the video quality is like it in 1.65 was.
Saturday
Haven't gotten the new firmware, anxiously awaiting to see if it resolves this BS 🤪
Saturday
If it stays working like the last days, had seen al better running some days ago, but now i see there is also a new firmware on the Doorbel.
If it wil running like the last two days, so inwil get the nest subscription back.
For now it is worth, but wil see if it stays working like the last days. And wait for other replies when more people get the new firmware
Saturday
Hmm still looks pretty pants this end, even after 10 seconds
Sunday
Night vision is still not good.
Wil say it everytime, the night vision was PERFECT only on 1.65 firmware.
But for the rest its now working fine.
Improve only the night vision like it in 1.65 was and i wil be Happy.
But for the rest its working fine. With the new Firmware
Sunday
