Pls advise re power /discontinued

I bought a house with a Nest thermostat and outdoor, hard wired camera. I am trying to add the camera, but there is no power light and the wire goes into the concrete block. The green power indicator is not on, and I've tried out all the other electrical things out there and it all works fine. I have a Ring camera hardwired where the porch light used to be. It's about 3 feet away from the Nest cam. The Ring product works fine and has power. No breakers are tripped. Short of calling an electrician, is there anything else I can try? Any chance it's been discontinued and stopped getting power? I can't seem to Google whether the support for this model has been discontinued or not. BKUKJ2 Thanks!

Hi NinaL,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that you found that the outdoor, hardwired camera installed in the house you bought has no power light. Thank you for letting us know important details such as the camera not showing the green power indicator and you’ve tried out other electrical devices out of your house, and it all works fine. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  1. What is the model of your outdoors, hardwired camera?
  2. Are you using an Android or an iPhone to control your outdoor, hardwired camera?
  3. Are you using the Nest app or the Google Home app to set up your outdoor, hardwired camera?
  4. Is your Google Home app or Nest app updated?
  5. Is the outdoor, hardwired camera paired to a Nest account?
  6. Are there any kinks or frays in the cable?
  7. Could you please inspect if there are damages on the cable?

In the meantime, I recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Move the camera and plug it into a different working power outlet.
  2. Verify the outlet isn’t controlled by a light switch.
  3. Plug another known working device into the outlet the camera is currently connected to. Observe the behavior.
  4. If the inconvenience persists, check the power adapter:
    1. Unplug the power adapter from the power outlet and from the locking USB cable that connects to the camera and check if there is any corrosion or water present inside the adapter.
    2. Check if the adapter was locked when you removed the USB cable. Confirm if you could feel any resistance when turning the locking connector to remove the cable.
    3. Make sure both the USB port and the USB cable are clean and dry before connecting the power cable to the power adapter.
    4. Install the adapter so that the USB port faces sideways or downwards.
    5. When the cable is fully inserted into the USB port and locked, there is a small gap that can act as a reservoir where water can pool.
  5. If the adapter is okay, then use the provided USB cable to connect the camera to a computer and observe if the camera turns on.
  6. Check if the previous owner removed the outdoor, hard wired camera from their Google account.
  7. Reset the outdoor, hardwired camera to erase all the previous owner's data. If you need help with this step, here you find more information on how to reset your device depending on the model you have: Factory reset to the outdoor, hard wired camera

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna
