Portrait versus landscape

Recently upgraded to a Google Nest wired doorbell 2nd gen but I am sorely disappointed. I was a huge fan of all things Google but not any longer. The Nest quality of picture is much better, but the field of view is approximately one-third of my previous Ring doorbell. I have a small ranch home with a narrow front porch. Once you step onto my porch and take 16 steps, you will be at my front door, with my doorbell being first. The total length of my porch is approx 20ft.

With that being said, my Nest doorbell does NOT show the length of my porch, most importantly the step onto my porch.  My limited portrait view shows the roof of my porch to the concrete directly in front of the Nest doorbell.  Yes, the picture quality is great but I obviously would rather have more range. When packages are delivered my Nest does not pick up the vehicle nor the placement of my package. The Nest does not even pick up vehicles pulling into my driveway, which is attached to my porch/house. When someone parks and comes onto my porch, it does NOT pick them up until they are almost immediately in front of the Nest.  I am extremely disappointed in my Nest field of view.  Unfortunately due to my mistake, I am now aware of the limited view and all the negative reviews. I have even read how Google "sales the limited view" by the quality but if you can't see someone until they are in front of the camera then it's useless. If I just wanted audio to speak with someone then I would have purchased an audio system.

To get to my question/issue:  I took my Nest doorbell down and mounted it sideways/landscape and the field of view is GREAT!!! I can see my entire porch, my driveway and yard!! This is perfect, and aesthetically it doesn't look that bad mounted landscape.  HOWEVER, when viewing on my phone it is sideways. Ugh. Rotating my phone each time is not horrible, nor viewing in portrait but portrait shrinks the size of picture, which is frustrating. When I look at my camera view on my phone, Hub, or TV, the field of view is only landscape. That would be fine if there was a setting to rotate the view. Is there anyway I can leave my Nest mounted landscape but rotate my view on my devices????? If not, I don't think I can relinquish to such a small field of view. It's useless.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

@AnnieisBlessed

Google Nest provides an option for rotating the image 180 degrees on cameras but not on doorbells.

There is no option for a 90-degree rotation.  I suspect this might be due to the technical challenges of rotating the aspect ratio by 90 degrees, but I don't know.

Hi @AnnieisBlessed,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Doorbell isn't detecting events like package deliveries or vehicles in your driveway. I understand how frustrating it is when a device doesn't perform as expected. I'm happy to assist.

@MplsCustomer, Thank you for your contribution and the correct information provided.

Since the Nest Doorbell is not detecting activities, I'd like to recommend you Set up and use Activity Zones to increase or edit your angle activity. In that article you’ll see how to do the process either on the Google Home app or Nest app.

And also, we are committed to ongoing improvements, and your feedback is important to us and helps us identify areas for improvement. Please share your thoughts about rotating the Nest Doorbell Camera 90 degrees using the following link to the feedback form. You can share your experience and offer ideas there.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Derick.

I set up my activity zone right away and have adjusted as needed. I continue to have my camera rotated and it still does not pick up the a significant portion of my portion. I appreciate your response but I understand there is not fix.  My Google doorbell is just very limited in range of view, which is a huge disappointment.
