Problem Adding Camera - vicious circle

Garry-s

Can't seem to add a new Nest Cam (battery).

In Google Home, I clicked + add device, new device, select my house (I have more than one home), it says looking for devices, what are you setting up, I select camera, then it says "Go to Nest app".

So I go to the Nest app, select the house, select the gear icon, + add product, scan the QR code, it then says "Go to Google Home App"

Hello,   I think this might help...

After it says looking for devices and you have selected Camera there should be one more question offering you the choice of the new BATTERY camera or the older cameras.  If you do not see this choice then I think are are running a slightly out of date GOOGLE HOME app.   To check this go to the APP STORE and search for GOOGLE HOME and see if there is an update.  If there is then this should fix the problem.

Let me know if this works.

Side note: To the shock of many of that have purchased the new cameras they DO NOT work in the older NEST app.  And the GOOGLE HOME app lacks A LOT of features and you may not like it.  I returned my new cameras.  Also, the new cams are not viewable on your computer at all which is another big negative for me.

I just had an entirely unhappy dialog with a guy named Gilbert.  My Doorbell had stopped working many months ago.  I get no WiFi.  I get no Bluetooth, just a stupid green light.  Can you please direct me to an address for Quality Control so I can have them look at this?  Thank you.

Dear Google,

Regarding my old wired Nest Doorbell that stopped working, let me point out a couple of things:

1) It was gifted to me.  It sat in the box until one day the light on my illuminated doorbell switch died.  I replaced it with the Nest Doorbell.  All was well.  My Camera heard sounds.  My Microphone saw cars.  It was a glorious thing, but short-lived.

2) It hasn't worked for months and months now.  I've played around with it off and on but the lack of a functional doorbell has been climbing the To-Do list.  Finally, I decided to give you a call.  It wasn't productive and I feel bad for the poor souls that have to support this product - a mishmash of really old wired, old wired, new wired, and battery-powered modules; all with various degrees of inter-operability with the Google Next and/or Google Home Apps.

3) I no longer seek resolution to this problem.  You may close any open tickets you might have open.

4) I had requested to get this issue front and center to Quality Control.  They have the 2C's necessary for successful conflict-resolution with Product Development: Cojones and Clout.  I'm a big Root Cause Analysis guy and strangely, I feel deprived. Who knew that closing a pair of contacts would be so hard?

In all of Google Engineering's excitement to pack in Microphones, Cameras, Bluetooth, WiFi, or even Quantum Qubits, they seem to have forgotten the single-most important function of a door-bell switch:

PUSH BUTTON; GET DING-DONG.

I am currently having the same issue. I just bought two new nest cameras straight from google store. First camera syncs without effort. Second camera will not sync and I believe QR code is the issue.

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I am terribly sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time with this! I would love to look into this issue further and help find a solution for you. First off, I have some questions I’d like to ask you.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device if you haven’t already?

  • If the restart didn’t work, have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This would be a last resort option, but would clear out issues and the device would essentially be ‘brand new’

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

We enjoy the Nest app over the google home app. Having trouble adding an outdooor cam to the Nest app. The process halts when choosing the last 4 of serial #.  Does not show any serial #’s to choose from. I have the device plugged in, in range of phone, have toggled the Bluetooth on/off, tried from tablet & still no luck. Can you help.

@BCADAIR

Hi there,

I would love to look into this further for you, but I have some questions to ask:

  • Which Outdoor Camera do you have?
  • Is this a new Camera? Or is it used?

Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Best Regards,

Brad.

Can this be done outside of actually wiring it back up to the chime, say using a USB charger or possibly a USB port on a PC?  I can't seem to get a valid QR code read.

1)  Yes, problem persists, although I'm back to using the regular door bell switch and 16VAC.
2) Tried adding it to Nest well over a hundred times now.
3) I've reset the phone several times over the course of troubleshooting.  I tried my wife's phone and I get the same symptoms, which seems to be a bad QR code read, or 'hairtrigger" at best.
4) Yes, I've done a few factory resets.  Seems to blink the green led, then back to solid green.
5) No, I never see any pairing attempt done.  Nest doesn't show me that, but if I set the phone to scan for Bluetooth, I never see the Hello unit.  At no times does the Hello ring button turn blue.

If I use the QR reader on the phone, it yields this in text:

I can add it manually, using JV1X6L, but still no blue light.  Solid green.  I can reset it with a paper clip with the code manually entered in Nest and same thing.  Green off w/ paper clip, Green on w/o paper clip.  Still no Blue light.

I can't connect my nest cam battery-powered camera. I manage to connect the one but not the 2nd one. Even I reset it to factory setting but still not working. I have solid green light even after resetting the camera.

Please advice.. Thanks
