Reconnecting Wired Nest Camera

LRL
Community Member

A new router was installed, switched internet/TV carrier. I have two older wired Nest cameras outside and 3 newer battery Nest cameras outdoor as well. The two older ones were initially  installed using Nest app, but were later mitigated over to the Google Home app, on which the 3 battery cams were installed. After the wifi change I had nothing but trouble trying to get any to work. After factory resetting all of them and a lot of frustration I guess I ended up creating a whole new Google Home account and added the 3 battery cams to it. Prior to that I stumbled my way and got the two wired cameras working under the Nest app. I thought I used Google to log in because I did not remember my Nest log in info. When I tried to mitigate the two cameras to my Google account I believe it said I do not have permission. In the process I somehow lost the Nest account and the working cameras. Even though I tried to factory rest them again any attempt now says they are assigned to another account and I have no idea how to get to it. I never signed up for any monitoring service and the cameras were bought by me and have never left my residence. What can I do? Thank you.

Given all that has happened in your situation, you might want to contact Support for guidance (see below). However, here are a few observations.

You can "migrate" your Nest Account to a Google Account (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676). We migrated in 2020. After a successful migration, you log onto the Google Nest app using your Google (gmail) account, using the "Sign on with Google" option, but your 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells remain in the Google Nest app but can also be seen in the Google Home app.

If you are on the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app (available since Nov. 2022; we are NOT on it), it is now possible to individually "transfer" your 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells from the Google Nest app to the Google Home app.

If you are getting a message saying your cameras are "connected to another account", it's probably because they are still connected to whatever account you originally used to install them and you have not removed them or performed a factory reset.

Some 1st gen Google Nest cameras do NOT have a factory reset button and can only be factory reset by removing them from the Google Nest app while still on your original account and on your original Wi-Fi network. See this Help topic:

To contact Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.
