Navs
Community Member

Hi,

Can not stream Nest doorbell wired 2nd gen to chromecast.

Tried asking google assistant to show doorbell on living room tv.

It says doorbell does not support streaming to remote displays.

Does wired doorbell does support streaming ?

Thanks

@Navs

I don't know how Chromecast works, but you can only stream Google Nest cameras and doorbells to Nest Hubs by asking Google Assistant on the Nest Hub to do so.  You cannot ask Google Assistant on your PHONE to stream your doorbell to a Nest Hub.  If Chromecast has Google Assistant, can you ask Google Assistant on Chromecast to stream your doorbell?

@MplsCustomer thanks for your reply.

Chromecast is a device that is connected to tv . I am able to stream Nest indoor camera to chromecast and watch on tv but can not do with nest door bell.

Here In documentation it is mentioned only battery doorbell can stream. Which seems illogical.

"Note: Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Doorbell (battery) can only stream to Chromecast with Google TV or a smart display screen. Learn how to Stream your security camera using your display."

Hey Navs,

When viewing the live feed in the app, do you get a Chromecast logo on the top of the image? Also, is your Chromecast a Chromecast with Google TV, or another model of Chromecast?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

No I do not see chromecast logo when seeing live feed in Google home app.

I have chromecast 2nd gen.

Just to add, I also have Nest indoor camera and I can stream that camera to chromecast just fine by saying to Google assistant " Show my camera on living room tv"

But when I say same thing for door bell it says "Your doorbell does not support streaming to remote screens".

Thanks for clarifying, Navs.

I think where the confusion comes in is that the doorbell is only compatible with Chromecast models with Google TV. Older Chromecast models aren't supported, and that's where you are running into compatibility problems. If you have any other questions on that, let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

@Jeff thanks for your reply.

Is it documented somewhere? Just to be sure before I upgrade my Chromecast?

Actually, Navs, in the link you shared and quoted, it states that. I can see how it might a little confusing, however. This part: "Note: Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Doorbell (battery) can only stream to Chromecast with Google TV or a smart display screen. Learn how to Stream your security camera using your display."

Chromecast with Google TV is the newest generation of Chromecast. That's the name of the Chromecast that comes with the TV remote. There are 4K and 1080p models, but that's the supported Chromecast model. Maybe I can pass feedback along to our teams for you that the wording makes it look as if Chromecast as a whole is supported, and not just that specific model. Let me know if that makes more sense.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff.

Now I get that chromecast for tv is only supported.

The other question I have, is only doorbell battery supported?

I have doorbell wired. Will it work even if I have chromecast for TV?

Thanks

Hi there,

@Navs, for the Chromecast with Google TV, all Nest cameras and doorbells are supported to stream. As long as your account is migrated to Google and you use the same Google Nest email in the Google Home app, both the 1st and 2nd Gen Nest cameras or doorbells will be supported.

Thanks for the help, @Jeff.

Let us know if you have more questions by replying to this thread.

I have dame Google Home account as nest. All my nest cameras work fine except Nest doorbell wired gen 2.

When I try to stream to chromcast it says

Sorry, it looks like the Doorbell doesn't support streaming to remote screens.

I just tried again.

Thanks

Hey there,

Thanks for trying. Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen Wired should be compatible, but please try to factory reset both your Chromecast with Google TV and your Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen Wired.Reinstall both devices back on the Google Home app, then check if you still have the same message.

Here is the link on how to factory reset Chromecast with Google TV and Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen wired.

Let me know if that works.

Best,

Edmond

Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear if you are still getting the same message on your Chromecast. I just want to verify: are you using the Nest Hello Doorbell wired or the 2nd Gen Nest Doorbell Wired? Check out this link to see the difference between the two devices.

I look forward to your response.

Edmond
