Support across various apps

Just bought a Nest Floodlight Camera. Set up easily only to discover that it doesn’t work in the actual Nest app that we have been using for a couple of years.

Fair enough, irritating but not the end of the world. Although nothing on any website told me that would be the case. We can swap to Google Home. Went to look at our other Nest Outdoor camera it was there in Google Home. BUT you can’t make any configuration changes through Google Home to the old camera, you have to go to the Nest App to to do it. So I can’t get rid of the Nest App I have to run both.

What a mess. Doesn’t anyone involved with this product line know anything about compatibility, integration or even just looking after existing customers. TBH if I had known the floodlight camera wasn’t going to be supported by the Nest App I would have researched other alternative options and maybe swapped system totally.

I understand products moving forward, integrating wider product ranges etc. but the Nest Outdoor cam isn’t that old. You can still buy them from some places. It shouldn’t be dropped so quickly.

I have done that. It wasn’t pretty reading. Having spent 20+ years in software development/support/product management I am stunned by what Google have done.

one question. Could someone confirm to me that I can’t get notifications from my Nest Outdoor cam, the original wired pre IQ one, through Google Home? Even though I can view it and access its event history. At the moment I am getting notifications for that one via the Nest app and from the new camera from Google Home. So really no option but to keep both apps installed.

Hi again,

I own a Nest Hub Max and a Gen 1 indoor camera that I get notifications through the Nest app and the two Gen 2 indoor cameras I own send notifications through the Google Home app 😞

I've not yet found a way for getting all cameras notifications through the Google Home app.

Thanks for confirming. I can bring up notification settings for the new floodlight camera in the Home app, but settings for the outdoor doesn’t offer any notification options.

There weren’t that many early models of Nest cam that it would have been that big a deal to support them properly in the Home app. If there had been dozens of models going back 10-15 years I could understand it.
