Timeline on history of Google Nest Camera

I need help in trying to understand when the camera is recording motion at about 25 feet or when it is recording non motion using the 24/7 recording option. By the way I have paid for the 24/7 recording option.   I viewed my camera history I can see several blue lines on the timeline and then I see gaps along a the gray line and I don't know what the gaps means.  I viewed some of the gray lines and saw a man walking his but is was not identified in blue.  This event was outside of the 25 feet range. So the question is the blue on the history timeline only represent motion that is captured in programmed 25 feet distance and the gray line represent still pictures with no events.?

Hello Scibo,

Thanks for posting here in the Community and you are correct about what you said. If you’ve set your camera to record and save specific kinds of events in its video history, your camera will detect and process any important activity it detects, but will only save footage of events you’ve enabled to the cloud. You can create custom Activity Zones for your camera or doorbell for different types of activities that you want to be notified about. Even after you create Activity Zones, your camera still streams its entire view and stores the footage in your video history. The video feed stays the same with or without Activity Zones. But when you have Activity Zones, you can get alerts about motion in certain parts of your camera’s view and also check when motion happened there in the past. Hit this link for more information.

So are saying that if I establish a zone that will cover my front door area to catch packages being delivered delivered and removed, the camera will conitue record activity outside the zone too include 24,/7 hours recording?  MY conern is that if I establish a zone,  the camera won't record cars passing in front of my house which is outsideof the zone area?

Hi Scibo,

Thanks for getting back to us. You're correct, you can still receive notifications even outside your activity zone. Your 24/7 recording will work as usual.

Home app:

Note: If the option to create Activity Zones doesn’t appear in the Home app, follow the Nest app instructions in the section below.

  1. Select the camera that you want to make an Activity Zone for.
  2. Tap Settings Events Seen Events.
  3. Choose + Add a zone. The new zone appears in the middle of the camera’s view.
  4. Change the shape of the zone to capture what you want.
    • Turn your phone to go into landscape mode for a full screen of your camera’s view. Make sure the screen rotation setting on your phone is on.
    • Tap and drag inside the zone to move it.
    • Tap and drag any of the 8 dots on the sides of the zone to change its shape.
  5. To change the color of the Activity Zone, tap Zone color. You can pick from 4 different colors.
  6. Under the camera view, tap on the Zone name to give your zone a descriptive name.
  7. Under Event History, you can choose which types of events you want to record in that zone and which notifications you want to receive.

You may hit the link above to know more about the activity zone.

Hey Scibo,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Camera? Were you able to perform the steps I’m suggesting? We'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks,
