USB power for Nest Doorbell (battery)?

topia

I have a new Nest Doorbell (battery) in a high activity area so the battery doesn't last more than a few days. To charge it I need to remove it from the mounting plate for several hours which is not ideal. Where I have it, it would be possible for me to pass a usb cable through the doorframe so it is connected into the doorbell permanently. I could then plug the other end into a battery pack to recharge or, alternatively, leave the battery pack attached and hot-swap when the pack is depleted. Does anyone know if this would work? Will the doorbell operate whilst connected to a usb cable?

There seems to be no information posted anywhere on whether the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) will operate while it is connected to a USB cable and is charging. Or whether there are any drawbacks to continually charging the doorbell. You night have to resort to testing it yourself by removing the mounting plate, plugging in the USB cable to the doorbell and plugging the USB cable into a wall outlet, and attaching the doorbell to the mounting plate (since it won't operate if it's not mounted).

This Google Nest Help page refers to connecting the battery camera to the Wasserstein Solar Panel, pointing out that the doorbell always runs off of battery power and is trickle-charged:

Could you please answer the customer's question? Can the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) operate while it is connected to a USB cable and is charging, thereby allowing the customer to power their doorbell with USB power?

Hi folks,

@MplsCustomer, absolutely! It's working while it's plugged into a USB cable. I hope that answers your question.

Thanks,

JT

Thanks to @MplsCustomer for assisting with this question. Despite the answer above I think I will need to test this before I drill a hole large enough for a usb cable to run through! I'll report back, but in the meantime if anyone else has experience of doing this I'd really appreciate it 😄
