Is there a way to use the battery doorbell without the mounting bracket? I lost it and would like to use it without the mount bracket

@chitorivera223

Wasserstein sells a no-drill mount (using adhesive tape) that can be found on Amazon. I have no idea about its quality, and we have Nest Hellos, not the battery doorbell. I think you might have to change your mount type to a non-Google mount under Settings | Device information in the Google Home app.

@MplsCustomer  Thanks for your reply. I did look at the Wasserstein, but it looks like you still need the doorbell mount bracket to use it. The doorbell is off and seems like the mount bracket turns it on. The mount type on settings only applies to other cameras, the doorbell does not show that option. Appreciate your help

Hi folks,

Checking in — I hope you've got the answer you're looking for. Let me know if you have more questions in mind.

I appreciate your help here, MplsCustomer.

Thanks,

JT

I've bought a used doorbell on ebay. It only had the doorbell and the original package.

Do not see an option to change mount type in Settings | Device information, only the device information itself.

@veton

Since the "Camera mount" option is apparently available only on the battery camera not on the battery doorbell, you may not be able to use your battery doorbell without the mounting bracket.

Thank you for the info.

That's an unfortune. Do you by chance know how to order a new one?

@veton

Unfortunately, Google Nest does not sell any spare parts, unlike some of its competitors. Whoever sold you the doorbell sold you an incomplete product.

You could try contacting Support, start with this link and click "Next step" on the "Resources" page without selecting any Help topics in order to get to the contact options (chat or phone):

If the doorbell is less than a year old, perhaps they'll consider covering it under the warranty.

Thank you for the suggestion @MplsCustomer.

I've contacted the support and they've proposed to replace the item.

Hi Emerson,

Thank you for checking on the issue. The doorbell is not functional without the mount.

I'm still waiting for the instructions from Nest Support to get the replacement.

Its a bit of a back-and-forth, and usually takes 1-2 days to get a reply. There is a shortage with specific Ash color I have, so we also trying to overcome this point.

Would be much easier if I just could use the doorbell without the mount...

Replying just to follow the thread - I've had multiple issues where my doorbell does not properly mount into the mounting bracket, and now that my device is out of warranty, Google has been very unhelpful. I'd be interested in hearing about your solution to not using the manufacturer bracket!

Same issue here.  The spring-loaded mechanism on the doorbell housing has failed and now won’t connect to the bracket; making the doorbell camera non functional.  Any help or solution would be appreciated.

@CanuckNorth391 , from another thread, I found that using WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner in the release opening at the top, allowed the button to pop back out. Dirt and debris get in the release opening and jam the button in the unlock position when the device is used. I now keep a piece of painters tape on top of the opening and it's helped!

I'd spray the contact cleaner, and try using the release tool, back and forth until the button pops up again.

Hope this helps!
