Wired Nest Floodlight battery

A couple of months ago I installed a wired Newst Floodlight to my Mom's house. On her home app it is showing that the camera needs to be charged. I thought that having it wired would charge the camera. Did I install it wrong?

If there is always electrical power to the camera, the battery should NOT run down. It should be running on household current. If it's on a circuit with a switch, the switch should always be on.

We've the Google Nest Camera (Battery), which is basically the same camera used in the floodlight fixture, for 19 months, plugged in with the optional power cable, and it's been "Live" the whole time.

If you go to Settings | Battery for the camera in the Google Home app, it should say "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol.

If you go to the camera itself in the Google Home app, it should always be "Live".

Thank you. My Mom is elderly but I'm going to going to visit this weekend and check to see if the light switch is on.  Do you know if I will have to recharge the camera or will turning on the electrical switch charge the camera?

I don't think you need to dismount the camera to charge the battery. The battery on our battery camera has maintained its charge for 19 months.

If the light switch to her floodlight camera is off, check Settings | Battery for the camera before turning it on just to see what the battery level is. Then turn on the light switch; as I noted above, Settings | Battery should then say "Plugged in". If you want to make sure it's charging, try turning off the light switch after a few hours and check the battery level again under Settings | Battery, and then turn the light switch back on. (You cannot check the battery level when there is power going to the camera.)

Good luck.  Hopefully it's just the light switch and not something else.  There have been other posts in this forum from customers saying the battery on their floodlight camera is running down, but it's hard to tell how the issues were resolved.

We have just a conventional motion floodlight, and we have a little cover (from Home Depot, I think) over the switch to keep us from inadvertently turning it off.
