Wired Nest doorbell not playing xmas theme

Not sure what generation mine is. I've had it 5 years but this year when I switched to a holiday theme it only randomly works for a couple of seconds and I've never been able to get it to play inside even though notifications is turned on.  In fact, that made me realize, notifications has not been working for a while.  Why would these things stop working?

Hey MicheleC,

Thanks for posting here in the community. Let's sort his one out. To confirm, is the airplane or do not disturb mode turned off or on? Have you tried using a different mobile device to receive the notification? Were there any recent changes in the view of the camera?

Also, give these steps a whirl:

  • Turn off and on the notification settings from your Nest Camera through the Nest app.
  • Try using a different mobile device.
  • In case you don't have an activity zone, you might want to consider setting up one.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,
Emerson

Airplane mode is not turned on. I turned notifications off and back on again. I do have activity zones already. No change in performance.

Hi MicheleC,

Thanks for trying. We appreciate your efforts here. Let’s further check this — a few questions: do you have an Android or iPhone? Is there a pending iOS or Android update? Is there enough memory on your phone storage? Also, is the Do Not Disturb setting off and the Background app refresh on in your phone settings?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can also try:

  1. Restart your Nest camera.
    • Plug the camera into a power source.
    • Locate the reset button at the back of the camera.
    • Press and hold for 5 seconds.
    • Your camera will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.
  2. Restart your modem or router, unplug it from the power outlet for 1 to 2 minutes. Then, plug it back in.
  3. For Android devices, go to System settings > Sounds and notification > App notifications > Nest or Google Home and follow the configuration below.
    • Block all is disabled.
    • Allow peeking is enabled.
  4. For iOS devices, go to Settings > Notifications > Nest or Google Home and follow the configuration below.
    • Allow notifications is enabled.
    • You may disable any or all notification options.
  5. Restart your phone. Turn it off for 60 seconds. Then, turn it back on.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Hello,

These instructions puzzle me. I have an Android and I hear the normal doorbell. I don't have a Nest camera. It is a doorbell. My problem is that the notifications does not announce people like it used to and when I switch to holiday rings for Xmas or Halloween, starting this year, it still rings normally even when set to be a different ring.

I cannot do any of the recommendations below because it isn't a camera. The doorbell does not have a reset button.

I checked my notifications again in the Nest App and all were set correctly. My android phone has been turned off and on many times since I wrote my question and that has not helped.

I suspect the doorbell is starting to breakdown which is a shame as I've only had it 5 years.

Thanks

Michele

Hey MicheleC,

Uh oh! My bad. I’m sorry for the confusion.

Here’s how you can restart your doorbell:

  1. Insert the release tool into the hole at the bottom of your doorbell to remove it from its base. You can also use a paper clip or thumbtack.
  2. Use the release tool to hold down the button at the back of your doorbell for about 10 seconds. Your doorbell will restart.

Tip: Don’t unscrew the wires attached to the back of your doorbell.

Best,

JT
