Wireless Doorbell Won't Connect

I had been using a doorbell camera for some time with little difficulty. I am, however, having difficulty with setting up this new replacement. It won't connect to the wireless network. I get an error message of some kind after the part of the setup process where you enter the wifi password. I even got a replacement for this new camera that is having the same issues so I can only presume it is user error. I have tried the following:

  • factory reset doorbell
  • set router to 2.4 ghz
  • reset router
  • turn on wifi & Bluetooth and turn off cellular data
  • update ios app
  • uninstall and reinstall ios app
  • restart iphone
  • try second iphone
  • turn off private relay on icloud

I am not sure what else there is to try and any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi liamelarson,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Google Nest Doorbell can't connect to your WiFi. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

Based on the information and all the troubleshooting that you already describe, we can try to test with a mobile hotspot. This step isolates your home network and can confirm what is likely causing the issue. You'll need a second phone to set up the hotspot.

  1. On your first phone, in the Nest or Home app, create a test home structure.
  2. On your second phone, turn on a personal hotspot.
  3. Connect your first phone to the second phone's hotspot. Confirm your first phone has an internet connection.
  4. Factory reset the camera. Confirm the camera's LED light is pulsing blue.
  5. On your first phone, open the Nest or Home app, and then set up the camera in the test home.
  6. Select the hotspot for the camera, and then finish setup.

This will help determine if the issue is related to your home network or the camera itself.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Kevin

Hello. I have followed your steps and the doorbell was successfully connected using a hotspot. I am not sure why my first doorbell (years ago) did not need this troubleshooting and this doorbell required these steps as nothing I know has changed with my wi-fi setup. However, as it seems that my network was the issue, what settings need to be adjusted to connect my doorbell to my wi-fi? Thank you.

Hello, liamelarson

Thanks for reaching out to our Nest Community. We are so happy to assist you with your questions about the Nest Doorbell.

I'm very sorry to hear that the problem may be with your internet. I leave you the following article, Internet Bandwidth and Speed Requirements for Nest Cameras, so you can check what the requirements are to connect our cameras. If you think everything is in order, I recommend you contact your internet provider.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Kevin
