can't view camera or stream in Nest app but camera works, records plays back in Google home app

Just installed a new camera at a remote location, camera works fine when viewed in the google home app but does not show up in  the Nest application. When I try to add the camera in the Nest app, it takes me  directly to the google home app where in shows up and is working, I need to use/record clips  is in the Nest application which provides more control  over the clip. Any ideas what can be done to remedy.

I have my home location device in a seperate "home" which is available for manipulaiton  in the Nest app but not the remote camera.

Please help.

I'm very frustrated with this too.  In addition to not being able to see the "Nest camera" in the Nest app, you are also forced to migrate to google home and as the very last step AFTER you reached the point of no return you need to upgrade (actually downgrade) your nest-aware subscription and pay more.  I'm seriously thinking of moving away from google cameras.  This "event history" is ridiculous.  It's my camera.  I want to be able to see all the footage myself and pick my own events to save.

Make the cameras work with nest app and open the API so people can save the footage to their own systems and not depend on internet.

It looks like you may have discovered what those of us who have purchased new Google Nest cameras that were released in the fall of 2021 have been discovering: these new cameras do NOT work with the Google Nest app and do NOT appear on the home.nest.com website. They can only be accessed from the Google Home app.

Google's perspective on this, along with customer reactions, can be found in these blogs on this forum:

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Brad, I'm not sure what you are trying to say in your statement.  In a nutshell you're saying you knew you were going to break people, provide less functionality and did it anyways.  What would help is a statement saying when you will provide the same functionality in google home as is provided in the nest app and the "works with nest" API.   In addition to everything already mentioned that people have lost with this forced migration is I have lost a major security feature that was provided with the nest app.  Before migration, my Caseta switches were synced with the nest thermostat and smoke detectors so they would provide random on/off patterns when no one was home.  This is yet another feature missing.

Don't force a migration on people until you have equivalent functionality with a benefit and don't force people to switch to a subscription service with double the price and a fraction of the functionality.

Sean,

I agree with you. When I saw Brad's reply I could not believe it. I am a long time Google user ever since the original Google hub.  Multiple Pixel phones in my family and I have over 30 Google smart home devices, including multiple cameras. I am confident that marketing a camera as a Nest camera that does not work with their Nest app is misleading consumers. I was mislead and bought a Nest Cam (indoor wired) as an addition camera to my system and after multiple frustrating days it became apparent that this "Nest Cam" is not a Nest Cam. Frankly, Alphabet should have a few peoples careers over they way Google Nest has been rolled out. I can't tell you how much more saddening and frustrating it is to see they are aware, but simply don't care. They have our money.

Brad,

The assistance we need is we would like a list of Google devices and which ones work with the Google Home App and the Nest App. This ways we can avoid wasting our money on Google products that function like Apple products. It would also be helpful if you could provide some information on Google plans. Are they going to correct this issue or are we to understand that the Nest App is no longer Googles direction.

Thanks, John

As a software firm, Google should know it's UI interface should be key to a seamless customer experience and it's woefully disappointing that the end-user experience is to obtain a top-notch physical camera possessing a frustrating interface demonstrating no cohesion with the supposedly expandable security system which has been promoted to customers for the last 5 years. Suddenly our old cameras no longer work with the new ones we just bought because there is no integration of software? Who would have seen that from a megolithic software giant like Google?

Well, don't you look silly? Fix it!
