"Doorbell press" notification channel gone?

A few days ago I installed a Nest Doorbell (battery) to replace my Nest Doorbell wired (1st gen). I was using the Nest app before with the old doorbell, which I have since deleted.

After first installing the new doorbell I could customise the notification tones per event type (different tones for person detected and doorbell ringing, for example). But after reinstalling the Google Home app due to some general glitches, the individual notifications channels no longer exist. They are not hidden, either. There is no more "doorbell press alert" notification channel, only "critical alerts" and "other notifications". Now, normal activity detected by the doorbell and doorbell presses are grouped into the same "other notifications" category, which makes it impossible to set two different tones for different events.

Anyone also experienced this, and how is it that it was there before but not after reinstalling the Home app?

Hi Krazee,

Thank you for your post. I understand you replaced your Nest Doorbell (wired) with a Nest Doorbell (battery) then reinstalling the Google Home app as you got some general glitches. You've found that the individual notification channels, like the "doorbell press alert," are no longer available. you now only have "critical alerts" and "other notifications" remaining, which prevents you from customizing different notification tones for different events,  even though you had this functionality initially. I'm here to help you out!

The Google Home app doesn't offer the option to turn "Doorbell press" notifications on or off; these are received automatically. Additionally, there aren't options to set up different tones for various events. You can refer to the Nest camera or doorbell settings article for more information on this. However, the most similar feature available is the Visitor Announcement. I hope the How visitor announcements work article is helpful. Also, there isn't a feature to customize notification tones for different events through the Google Home app nor the Nest app.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Rusell

Thanks for your help, however after a few days the "camera notifications" and "doorbell press" notifications magically appeared on their own again. So all good now.
