Ads with YouTube premium when I pay for YouTube music

I use YouTube music which comes with YouTube premium. When casting to my 4k Chromecast I see ads intermittently... I also notice that videos I watch during that period of time do not show up on my watch history... I suspect those things are related

Have you checked if you're logged in into the Youtube App with the correct account?

I have and I am. Thanks for the suggestion

Yup, mine too

The "app" on the Chromecast isn't signed in, so it plays ads. I can't find a way to sign in on the chromecast itself (if you open the "remote" on your phone and go back to the menu page there's a sign-in button on the top left, but you can't navigate to it to press it).

. I've factory reset it, removed it and re-added it to my account. No luck fixing it. QUITE annoying, just started happening a few days ago, last week it seemed fine.

Yeah I guess it was semi intentional... I wonder if Google is trying to sunset older Chromecast hardware. From what I've read the new Chromecast with Google tv (white dongle and come with a remote) works to stay signed into your account.... I get Google needs to stop supporting hardware but intentional removing software functionality makes it hard for me to want to keep paying for YouTube music... Or to keep buying Google hardware when all the do is abandon it anyways...

I don't know if that's the case here. I think they just changed how casting retrieves streams. Instead of the chromecast using your account it's just using a guest account. I "hope" that's relatively easy to fix. First step is to get them to even care that it's a problem.

Hello folks,

Thanks for reaching out. Is this only happening with YouTube Music, or even with the YouTube video app? Have you tried to log out from your YouTube Account and log back in? You may try to clear the cache and data of the YouTube Music app and reinstall it. Reaching out with YouTube support might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I've never opened YouTube music. I'm just playing video. It "seemed" to be resolved last night while using it. I didn't change anything since the last time it was having issues, so I assume it's on the server side. I did reach out to YouTube support and they had already confirmed that the account was fine.

I also had used several different Premium accounts to test if any of them were correctly blocking ads, none of them did.

Clearing caches wasn't the issue, thanks for the input though.
