Android System Webview app doesn't update in Play Store

I went into the Play Store on my CCwGTV to see if I had any updates, and I noticed the Android System WebView app needed updating.  When I tried to update, it started to update, but when it got to just over 80%, it stopped.  And then said it still needed updating.  Keeps happening.  Not sure if the app is needed for this device, but it's bothering me that it won't update.  Any thoughts?  And yes, the CCwGTV is fully updated to the latest version.

Hey there eorent,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that updating issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling that WebView app?
  • Are any other apps having issues updating?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

I believe it started around a month ago. When it didn't update, I did uninstall the app (or at least the updates, I guess). But it still appears to fail again at around 80% of the install. I considered doing a factory reset but it doesn't seem worth the effort. Everything appears to be functioning normally, just the updates fail.

It shouldn't break anything to not have that particular app updated, but I can understand that's a bit frustrating that it keeps failing. If you have the chance, would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via the Google Home app with logs enabled? That was our engineering department can look into this issue and see if there is a bug.

No issue at all if you don't have the time!

Yeah, not sure exactly how to do that.  Remember, this is happening when updating in the Play Store on a Chromecast with Google TV device.  Maybe if I submit feedback from the Play Store app it might show something.  Not really sure.

That would work! Here is how to submit feedback via Google TV, which would also be very helpful! Of course, you only need to worry about it if you have the time, either way I'll pass this up so that Google is aware of the issue.

Thank you,

Of course!

In that case, so I'm locking the thread for now. Feel free to make a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns in the future.

Have a good one!
