Apple Magic Keyboard paired to Chromecast Google TV

Dey1
Community Member

Hello everyone...

First time here. I am having difficulty pairing my bluetooth 'Apple Magic Keyboard' to my 'Chromecast Google TV'. The Chromecast sees the keyboard and asks me to enter a passcode on the keyboard, but it fails to connect and this will not pair. I reset the keyboard and ensured that it was in pairing mode and tried several times, but without success.

Any help would greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Dey1

Hey there Dey1,

I apologize about the late response on this, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that Bluetooth issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, since troubleshooting 3rd-party devices can be tricky. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What is the firmware version of the Chromecast?
  • Are you able to connect the keyboard via USB?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hello Jeran,

Thank you for responding to my inquiry.
The Firmware for the Chromecast is 1.56.276477
It's an Apple Wireless Keyboard (Third generation (A1314) MC184LL/A). There is no USB option, only bluetooth
I have never been able to get it to work. The keyboard works fine with an Apple computer or other non-Apple devices.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ian

Nope. I heard from Jaren above, I responded, and have received no further response or help.

I'm having exactly the same problem. Works pretty well in my android smartphone, but I can't make it work on my  Chromecast

I have same problem - Logitech K380 stuck while paring. Chromecast ask to enter PIN, but nothing happens after pin typed on keyboard.

I have the same issue with my K380. 😞

Problem occurs after upgrading from A10 to A12. There are more people affected by this issue (https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/yfmnvf/logitech_k380_not_pairing_with_gcwgtv/). Please make some fix, to resolve this issue.

how can you make a product that has Bluetooth and then blame the keyboard manufacturer when it connects to everything but your device 😆

especially since this is clearly an issue with the android 12 update

HOW INCOMPETENT ARE YOU!? IS THIS A EARLY APRIL FOOLS JOKE!? HOW... INCOMPETENT... ARE YOU!?

1. it WORKED WITH ANDROID 10 / previous version of Chromecast with TV firmware

2. Chromecast with TV is a "computer/phone/tablet" literally, it is just android

3. people who had their, ANY BT KEYBOARD, THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH ANY BT KEYBOARD SINCE ANDROID 12 UPDATE, including K380 and Apple keyboard, paired before the Android 12 firmware update, HAVE THEM STILL WORKING => BUG BUG BUG

4. how incompetent are you?

THIS IS A BUG, which was introduced with Android 12 firmware update for the chromecast with tv.

I also got this nonsense answer by another Person who has no idea what theyre doing, how did these people get their Job at Google!?

"My name is ****, one of the senior support from Google. I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with pairing your keyboard to the Chromecast TV. We have confirmed with Apple that it is designed only for phones, tablets and computers. You can send feedback to us with the feature that you wanted. "

This is a LIE. You didnt CONFIRM ANYTHING. You used MY POST on the Logitech forums as a nonsense irrelevant reference.

How did you even get your Job at Google!?

OPEN A BUG REPORT NOW FOR THIS. So that someone at Google, who knows what theyre doing, looks into this.

Who selected this lie as the answer? The mod themself? I want these supporter guys to get fired. This is not acceptable. They have no idea what theyre talking about and spread lies.

How can this be the best answer, a post with zero likes....

Keyboard worked with Android 10, doesn't work with Android 12...

KB380 system requirements according to specifications. Android 8 or higher...

Google is failing hard on this topic...

As stated below Ive managed to pair Magic Keyboard with CCWGTV (HD, A12) but there some bug in the settings having the keyboard Numlocked by default. Hence it cannot be a hardware issue.

Also as mentioned here and on other sites it seems keyboards worked before upgraded to Android 12.

Reffering to the compatability specified by Apple themselves (trying to lock people into their own range of products) just wont do it. Fun fact: Previously I used the keyboard with an Apple TV 3, which is not mentioned in the link as compatible...

As far as I understand, the K380 is not compatible with Android TV. The fact that it worked with the A10 TV was probably a bug, right? You fixed this bug in A12 TV, right? (:

I own both keyboards and neither pairs with my Cwgtv 4k since A12 Update. But both pair with Cwgtv HD which I also own and which is A12 too.

We all know on here it is Googles fault and they fd up.

As we know from Google, those keyboards are not compatible with Android TV. If both pair with Cwgtv HD this is probably some bug. Maybe they "fix" this in the future release. (; /: 😞

Yes, perhaps replace your working keyboard because at Google we don't care!

I just purchased Chromecast 4k and it updated automatically to A12. I tried to pair with K480 but it does not register pair code. I searched web and found that this is sort of common issue people reported after updating to A12.

I've actually managed to pair my Apple Magic Keyboard (A1314, without numeric pad). The process was not very smooth but finally got it connected. Unfortunately it seems that the keyboard defualt setting is NumLock turned on (or off?) as the keys mostly produce nothing and a few in the middle of the board produce number 1-9. Arrows works as intended and so does Enter, but I cant use it for typing text.

Any tips and/or solutions to this problem?

mkdr

Instead of asking for nonsense tips maybe you could ENLIGHTEN US HOW YOU DID MANAGE TO COUPLE IT!? you ever thought about that?

JensZ
Community Member

Easy now, tiger...

Several connection attempts in a short sequence (6-7?) led to a time window of writing the coupling code on the keyboard. Just like those old quick-time-event games. When I was fast enough to type the code and hit enter the pairing was completed. Not that it matters since I cant input text on the **bleep** thing.

Still looking for tips.

I had tested that already on my K380, with being fast as possible, do it several times in a row. Never worked. This is totally prove that is a BUG. We need to find someone at Google who is not a support guy working in India to report it to.

Tried that aswell, just pressing ENTER without any code gives atleast a response.... So something is working

Hey there Dey1,

Thank you for filling that out! Chromecast Support should reach out to you via e-mail, so keep an eye out. It sounds like they are still looking into it after looking at MichalBk's case, so it may be a few days.

Best regards,

Jeran

Also Bluetooth over headphones on YouTube is absolutely terrible again I member this being an issue in the early days of ccwgtv

I have 3 ccgtv 4K, I have 3 Aftershokz Bluetooth headset and 1 logitech bluetooth keyboard and 1 altec bluetooth speaker working fine with Android 10 OS until last year. Then google upgrade my 3 ccgtv 4K to Android 12, an after every reboot of every ccgtv 4K all 3 Aftershokz Bluetooth headset, the logitech keyboard and the Altec speaker stop pairing (connecting) with any of the 3 ccgtv 4K. So now google make OS that are not compatible with any well known brands of bluetooth keyboards, bluetooth headset and bluetooth speaker. SO WHAT MORE google developers??? Any more things you are going to blame to the world and don't even try to look and wash dirty cloths (fix bugs) inside your labs (OS updates)???

So I already have a "Nest doorbell baterry" [that some people (developer) from the beach forgot the other half ot the country have temperature under 33°F a couple of months every year. So if I want the doorbell to charge and last the charge I have to put the doorbell inside the warn house because battery don't like the frozen temperatures] using it for "paperweight" , So now I have to add 3 ccgtv 4K to use as "paperweight" because all the well known brands of the world that made bluetooth devices don't test their products with future (not developed OS yet) Android OS??? Alright I will stop the sarcasm, but really Google spend some of our money to pay a developer to fix your bugs.
