Can I just tell the assistant to pause my movie?

Hitting the center of the pad to pause but to play again means finding the movie again and hitting play. Can I just ask Google assistant to pause?

Yes, you can say something like "Hey Google, pause the living room TV" if you have a smart speaker or device (phone or tablet) with the Assistant on it.
 
However, I've found that to be a bit of a pain in my situation because the smart speaker that will hear me is further away and I have to yell to be heard over the TV.
 
The Chromecast, itself, can't hear you and respond to the "Hey Google" command.
