Can no longer output 4K @ 60 Hz + HDR to Epson 5040UB projector. Broken by OS 12.

The current/recent firmware/software/OS for Chromecast with Google TV has broken my ability to output 4K @ 60 Hz + HDR. My Epson 5040UB has very specific requirements to do this. I previously could output 3840 x 2160 progressive @ 59.93 with 8 bit 4:2:0 in BT.2020 HDR. I've upgraded to Android 12, security patch Oct 1, 2022, Kernel 4.9.269. No matter what display settings I try, it will no longer allow me to set 4K 60 Hz + HDR. I can set 60 Hz without HDR or 30 Hz with HDR. The reason this is important is that Netflix 4K requires 60 Hz, so I can now only choose 4K or HDR with Netflix, not both. The projector provides HDR but not Dolby Vision.

Hey there kklarson,

Again, I am sorry for the delayed response on this thread, and I thank you for your patience. In this case, you may want to speak with Chromecast Support, as they would have more tools to look into this issue deeper. If you have the time, would you fill out this form so that Chromecast Support can reach out to you via e-mail? Once you do so, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hey there kklarson,

I apologize for the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that 4K issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I can imagine this issue has been quite frustrating to deal with. First thing, check for updates to the Chromecast's firmware, as there was a recent bug-fix update that went out. Then, go ahead and change the HDMI port that the Chromecast is plugged into if possible.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Thank you for your reply Jeran.  My Chromecast is on the latest firmware; no updates available.  I only have one HDMI port  on my projector that supports the 4K HDR resolution.  As I noted, another Chromecast with Google TV 4K that I have that is still on old firmware, does not have this problem.

Hey there kklarson,

Thank you for filling out that form! You should have someone from Chromecast Support reach out to you via e-mail, so feel free to continue the conversation there. It may be a few days before you hear from them, as they are still catching up from the holidays. In the meantime, did you have any more questions for me? If not, I'll go ahead and lock the thread in 24 hours.

Best regards,

Jeran
