Can’t see my new chrome cast on the Google Home app

I’m trying to connect a new chromecast.  I have downloaded the Google Home app.  When I try to connect a new device, the app does not recognize any devices.  The chromecast is on with a steady white LED light.  What is my next step?

your next step is to return it!  get a firestick - you'll be MUCH happier!

Really?  There's nothing else I can do?  I'm using the Chromecast to send the video to a projector from a phone.

Hey there Afpiepkorn,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is having some connection issues! These communication problems can be tricky, so I'd be happy to help you figure this out. Just to clarify, does this problem occur while setting up your Chromecast, or after it's been set up? Because you're using an iOS device, make sure Bluetooth and Local Network Access are both turned on.To turn on Local Network Access:

  1. Go to the phone's Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy Local Network.
  3. You should find a list of apps. You must turn on the Local Network Access for the Google Home app.

Thanks, Jeran.  The communication problem was during initial set up.  Once I get home from work, I will reattempt with your suggestions.  I'll let you know what happens.

Local Network was already on and the app still does not recognize the  Chromecast.  I tried with both my iPad and my Android phone.  Neither device will recognize the Chromecast with the Google Home app.

Hey there Afpiepkorn,

 

No problem we can try a few more things. Would you attempt to manually connect the Chromecast via the SSID? Here is how to do so:

  1. Go to the phone’s Settings.
  2. Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234).
  3. Go to the Google Home app and try to set it up again.

I would also make sure that your devices are on the same network band, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz. If you are using a 5GHz network, make sure the network band range is set between 36-48. Let me know if you have any questions.
