Cannot cast BBC iPlayer to TV

Hi

I can cast, for example, Youtube to my TV, but not BBC. I live in Cyprus and am using a VPN to watch BBC.  I can watch BBC iPlayer on my Chromebook, but have no success in casting. I've gone through the 3 dots in the top right hand corner of the Chrome screen and selected Cast, but a message 'Available for specific video sites' has appeared. It does so occasionally, for some unknown reason. Have disconnected/rebooted everything, but no joy. I've also tried casting from my PC (Windows 11) to the TV; the TV screen displays the BBC iPlayer logo with the message 'Ready to cast', but nothing happens when I attempt to cast. 

Would anyone be able to assist me with this issue? Could it be that I may need a better VPN provider than the one I have at the moment (Ivacy)?

Hi there,

The BBC iPlayer is not available outside of the UK.

When casting to a Chromecast you are not transferring the video from your device to the Chromecast. You are sending the Chromecast instructions on what video to play.

You would need your Chromecast to also connect to the internet over a VPN.

Sorry, didn't make this clear, I've been trying to cast whilst using a VPN (Ivacy). Would I have any luck with a different VPN?

Hey there,

Thanks for getting back to us. While it may work previously, Chromecast devices don't support the use of VPN's. It is still recommended to be connected to a home WiFi network. You may try to use a different VPN, however this still may or may not work. I'd suggest you send feedback about this. Here's how.
