Cant setup original chromecast

kellydj

I performed a factory reset on a chromecast to change WiFi.  My phone wont discover it.  I have tried two iphones.  Turned off and on WiFi on phone as suggested.  It did not help.  Can these devices be set up with a browser?

No, sorry, Google removed the ability to setup using a browser years ago.  It had become too problematic.

You have to use the Google Home app on a compatible phone or tablet.  Here are the instructions and some basic troubleshooting:

Hi, I have a solution which works for me -

  1. Reset your Chromecast.
  2. Connect your phone's Wi-Fi manually to your Chromecast’s service set identifier (SSID) [which is the name of the chromecast which usually says "chromecast[1234]" on the lower left of your TV screen].
    1. Open your phone’s Settings app
    2. tap Wi-Fi
    3. connect to the Chromecast SSID.
  3. Open the Google Home app and try setup again. Voila!

Hope this helps!!
