Casting from Computer to Television abruptly ends after appx. 40 minutes.

Just ignore the "Labels" it literally forced me to choose because I don't think they apply.  Anyway ...

Around two years ago I bought a Vizio smart television - and ever since then, YouTube videos have had a "casting" button included at the bottom of every video.  I do not have a Chromcast device of any kind - it simply worked right out of the box.  I literally had to do nothing to set it up or make it work.  It just ... worked.

And for two years it was worked.  Sometimes fitfully - but after reboots it would resume functionality.  Keep in mind, I do NOT cast from a phone, tablet, or other mobile device because I have no reason to.  I'm a disabled shut-in, not a jet-setter running all over the city every day.  As such, I only cast to a television from a desktop PC.

I'm assuming Chromecast is what my television uses since it says "Connecting to Chromecast" whenever I cast from my computer.  However, Vizio decided I needed yet another update for my television - which always seems to destroy functionality rather than create better functionality, and this case was no different.

On December 21st, the television downloaded the update.  Ever since then, I can only cast for approximately 30 to 40 minutes until the casting just stops abruptly and with no warning.  There are no error codes, no buffering, no pixelation or other video artifacts ... nothing.  The casting simply ends and I'm booted back to the television's Chromecast channel.

I have done all the usual things.  I've rebooted the computer.  I've unplugged the television.  I've unplugged the router.  I knew none of that would do any good - but I did it anyway just so we could skip it and hopefully get to something more "meaty."  Everything worked fine less than 24 hours ago.  I even played a 9-hour video without any interruptions.  Now I can't get a video to play  for even an hour without it eventually dumping me back to the Chromecast channel.  I've tried playing different videos, too, and of course - no.

The ONLY other thing I did was update my video card driver.  But after wading through an infinity of non-helpful posts, nowhere did I see anything about how updated video card drivers were causing Chromecast to not work correctly.  Hopefully someone can figure something out because I've come to rely on casting those "sleep" vids from YouTube to help with chronic insomnia.  Without it, I'm starting to lose sleep and sanity.  Thanks.

Hi Hannable69,

Thanks for posting and for providing detailed information on your issue as well as the steps that you did — it's a big help!

You may try resetting your TV and check if the same issue will persist. If you're not familiar with this, it would be best to contact Vizio support for help. Also, as Chromecast built-in is an open-source software, Vizio might be aware of any issues involving their TV.

Thanks.

Jennifer
