Chromebook not casting

I've had my Chromebook since 2020 I think, and I'm not sure what kind it is, but this year it just started not being able to cast. It says "Looking for devices" but it never loads. All of the other devices in my home work when trying to cast, except this one. Please help!

Hi @Windyfire90 

Restart your Chromebook, router and Chromecast. Make sure your Chromebook is on the same wifi network as your Chromecast.  Be sure that the Chrome browser is updated too.

I’ve restarted my Chromebook several times, and it has worked before when this first became a problem, but is no longer a solution.

It is also updated, and is the only device that is not casting.

Thanks for trying all that. What is your Chrome build? (Three dot, settings, about)

Do you have any administrator settings such as employer or school enabled on this Chromebook?

My Chromebook is a 64-bit Build. Also, another device in my home is a school administrated one, and that casts just fine.

And thank you for taking the time to find out what the problem is. I appreciate it.

Actually, my question hasn’t been fully answered yet. I wanted to know how to get my 64-bit Chromebook casting again.

Hiya Windyfire90,

 

Oh shoot, I'm sorry, I read the thread wrong! Let me give you some more troubleshooting steps to try. Just to double-check, is the Chromebook and the Chromecast connected to the same Wi-Fi band? In your case, if you have a Gen 1 Chromecast, it would be a 2.4GHz they would both need to be on. Also, just to confirm, are you able to cast from another device, such as a phone or tablet?

That’s okay.

I am able to cast from an iPhone and another Chromebook. I can also check the Wi-Fi Band.

That's good, that means the Chromecast itself is fine. In this case, go ahead and follow the steps listed in this article in order to see if they help resolve the issue, then let us know how it goes.

I just checked my Chromebook and I am able to cast again! Thank you to all who helped. I really appreciate it!

I looked at some of the steps on the website you gave me, and all of a sudden my casting is working again. I don't know what I did, but I'm glad it works. Thanks for all your help!
