Chromecast 5.1 Sound Problems, Setup

Google Chromecast connected to Sony STR-ZA2100ES 7.1 AV Receiver.  My TV is a Sony Bravia 55X850B.  Not all apps playback in surround sound.  I have not attempted Disney+ with Dolby Atmos.  Also have not tried Hulu.  Have sound settings set for Dolby Digital Surround.  I disconnected Netflix and Amazon from Chromecast because sound does not playback in surround sound.  It seems to playback in surround sound for Peacock and ESPN+ - at least there is sound coming through the rear speakers.  From previous threads, it appears this may be a long-standing issue with Chromecast.  My impressions thus far that there are many other people who are experiencing sound issues.  Therefore, it would be appreciated if someone would kindly take the time to explain why this is happening.  I have read threads about various apps having problems, so it would be appreciated if you will take the time to address / remedy these apparently ongoing issues.  This is the second time I have posted on this issues.  This time I decided to add some more technical specifics.  I have tried to find answers online, and so far, there seem to be conflicting commentaries - some blaming Chromecast, some blaming specific apps - Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, etc.  Please be kind to your customer base and clear this up. Thank you.

Hey there Escalante101,

 

I'm sorry to hear that you're also having these 5.1 audio issues. This is an issue that Google is aware of and the engineering team is trying to get as much data as possible. Would you be able to re-create this issue, then submit feedback to us with logs enabled? You can enter CCT3 Surround Sound into the description field.

I have the same problem. I only have pcm output and no Dolby digital

It could be nice to get this fixed. The Google TV chromecast is not useful with Sonos arc. I only have pcm.

For sure, I know I have dealt with the same issue with my own device. We'll provide updates on the status of this issue as soon as we can.
