Chromecast/CCwGTV ambient mode will not show all google photos

Ambient mode, even with ccwgtv won't show all my google photos. Is this still a known bug, or annoying feature?

Yes, I have tried: Turning curate to live albums only Favourites or starring photos for the album's Using Chromecast Using Chromecast Ultra Using Chromecast with Google tv Resetting the modem Resetting the chromecast.

Can anyone please solve this problem?

I've literally found about half my photos will refuse to be on ambient mode. If 'star' these particular photos, the favorites album won't even show as an option to select in ambient. Only once I 'star' photos Google likes, then does it become available, but ambient mode will still actively ignore half the photos

Hey there chiano91,

Welcome to the Chromecast Community Forum! I know I've seen some users in the past express the same issue where Ambient Mode would not display all of their photos equally. Just out of curiosity, do you have Personal Photo Curation enabled for your albums? If so, you can completely turn off curation for private and shared albums by changing the “Personal photo curation” setting to “Live albums only.” No curation at all is done on your Favorites. That way, the Google algorithm won't try to curate and pick the photos it thinks are the best shot.

Give that a try, and let me know if you have any more issues, I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi there thanks for your response

I definitely have curation turned off, that is, on live albums only.

From my experience, the setting doesn't make any difference regardless of what it's set to

Hey chiano91,

That is interesting, it makes me wonder if the setting isn't registering for some reason. Is your Google Home app up-to-date? If so, try removing the Google Photos album from Chromecast Ambient Mode, and then re-add it back. Here is how to get there:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. In the top right corner, tap Settings .
  4. Scroll down then tap Ambient Mode Google Photos.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, make sure the photos you're trying to appear aren't archived or have their face hidden. I look forward to hearing back from you!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

I have tried the above, the photos aren't face hidden or archived.

Eg I have two photos taken on the same day, not of people. Chromecast refuses to show one of the photos, but will only show the other one.

As this is clearly a fault on Google's behalf, and false advertising, I would like google to refund me the CCwGTV.

Hey there chiano91,

I'm sorry to hear that the Chromecast has been giving you so much trouble. In this scenario, I'd recommend that you reach out to Chromecast Support. After you get past the initial prompts, you can contact them either via online chat or phone call.

Let me know if you had any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Jeran
