Chromecast Gen 1 or 2 cannot connect to Wifi Via Home App

My chromecast was working fine until a few days ago when it said it couldnt connect to my wifi.  I factory reset my router and chromecast.  I tried to setup using the home app but it said it was too old and that I needed to download the Device Utility app to do that setup and then go back to the home app.

The device utility app is horrendous but found a work around with turning wifi on and off and selecting the correct chromecast.  So i was able to complete the device utility portion.

Now, in the google home app, I can find my device, verify the 4 digit code on screen and my Pixel 4a 5G matches, pick my wifi network (which works), enter password, and then error message" Could not connect to your Chromecast. Make sure that is neareby and that you connect to it when prompted."  My TV has the message "Connecting to "'my wifi network'"

do you have any advice or work around tips for this?

thanks

Hi jermo87,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please try the following steps below and let me know how it goes?

1. Launch Device Utility and then turn off WiFi as it says.

2. Let it find your inactivated device.

3. While it’s searching for your device, go back to your WiFi settings and manually turn the WiFi back on.

4. Go back to Device Utility and hit activate once it finds your device then proceed with the set up.

If the same issue persists, please try to reboot your WiFi router and make sure it is close to your Chromecast and setup device. Using a different mobile phone and uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app might also help.

Thanks for the suggestions, GreyMan.

Regards,

Jennifer
