Chromecast Google TV Slow and Flickers

I have several Chromecast's with Google TV about a year old. Apps are generally running slow, especially Hulu with Live TV. This morning the screen was flickering on the Google Home Screen and every app had pixilation to the point that I couldn't see what was playing but i could hear it. I have cleared cache and removed several apps that we don't use as much, still no luck.  I switched to a new HDMI port and the issue followed. I unplugged the power and reconnected and the issue is resolved for now. I noticed several others with this issue where the issue has been "resolved" but with no clear answer from Google or the community. Some of the steps i went through seemed to solve other people's issues, but for me only a power cycle fixes the issue temporarily.  Before i go buy a new one or switch vendors, are there any thoughts to why this is happening? is it too old? Did we miss a firmware upgrade? Unfortunately my TV's native apps work normally, its only when i use the Google TV that the issues happen.

Hey there,

That's no good that your Chromecast is overheating! Is it just warm, or is it hot to the touch? If the latter, you may need to look at getting the device replaced.
