Chromecast Netflix not responding to Google Home phone remote

Yesterday I noticed that I cannot use my GoogleHome app remote control on my phones anymore to control Chromecast Neflix.

All other streaming apps work fine except Netflix. I tried on all my Chromecast devices in my house and all phones on my group and none work. I even uninstalled Netflix and reinstalled.

since the original remotes for Chromecast are consuming so much batteries that we use the mobe phoneapp to control the chromecasts. 

But Netflix opens and nothing else.

I hope you all are doing well. Our team is aware of this behavior and is still looking into it. To help with their investigation, please submit feedback using your Google Home app. Check out the steps below for guidance:

 

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Feedback tap the type of device you'd like to submit feedback for.
  4. To display available emails, in the "From:" section, tap the arrow on the right. Select your email address.
  5. In the feedback summary, write a brief description of your issue and include the keywords “CCT3 Virtual remote not working on Netflix”
  6. Be sure to check the box for Screenshot and System logs.
  7. To submit feedback, at the top right corner, tap Send.

That happened to me too. Every app works but netflix. You need to fix it please.  Anyone will hage the same issue. Make an update please 

Send feedback to Google direct. Seems these days every time they do an update they screw stuff up.

Yes, but why? Google already know they've screwed stuff up, as usual. Their coders need to get their sh#t together and send an update out that actually works for a change.

You can't, they need to fix it. Until then, cast from phone to TV.

You have literally just bored everyone to death. You know there is a problem, brains, sort it.

It's July now, and this is still an issue. Are there even development plans for a fix for this? I am now entirely unable to enjoy Netflix on my TV, as the remote is missing. This is beyond unacceptable.

I've written my third or fourth Tweet at Netflix's social media about this and the  @MadeByGoogle account reached out to get more info and I sent them here -- I am gonna get their attention again and follow up.  Netflix has been silent.

Here is what I have Tweeted today, if anyone wants to do the same and tag the Netflix socials\support on FB, IG, etc.:

Going back to January 2023, Netflix has not done anything to acknowledge the virtual remote that you can use on your phone via Google TV app or Google Home app to navigate the Netflix app.
 
It is not Google TV specific, but the Chromecast with Google TV dongle specifically.

I did just find a way to call or chat with Netflix if you go through their contact\help page far enough;

We just got Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to go along with our new 4K TV. For the past 6 years, we have been using a Chromecast Ultra to cast Netflix to our TV via our phones. This has worked flawlessly.
With Chromecast with Google TV (4K), however, we have several issues when trying to cast from our phones. Those issues go away when we use the Google TV Netflix app instead of casting from the phone Netflix app. Not sure why this is, but it is acceptable.

However...
When we launch Netflix via the Google TV app, everything works fine if we use the physical remote that comes with Chromecast with Google TV. But, we don't want to use a remote, we want to use our phones.
Fortunately, the Google TV phone app has a virtual remote.

Except...
Once we launch the Netflix app in Google TV, the virtual remote in the Google TV phone app no longer works. At that point, we have to use the physical remote.
Is this intentional, or are we doing something wrong?

Hey @kwlmab, this is a Netflix app issue that they have NOT addressed in 4+ months now.

Please see these topics dating to the end of January 2023 when the issue appeared. It does not affect the virtual remote for Netflix on other Android TV devices, as far as I am aware it is only the Google TV Chromecast.

I am also having the same issue. Tried uninstalling an reinstalling Netflix. No luck. Also restarted my Chromecast with Google TV. No luck.

 

Behavior:

1. Netflix app on Chromecast with Google TV doesn't respond to any input from virtual remote. No matter if I access the remote from Google Home or through the Pixel 5 quick action tile from that drop-down menu.

2. Chromecast with Google TV no longer visible in Google Home. Casting to this Chromecast from YouTube works but not from Netflix.

 

Please fix this ASAP as this has been going on for over a month.

 

I really like using the virtual remote. With the physical remote I constantly have to replace the batteries. With the virtual remote I avoid such things entirely.

This is an issue from NETFLIX and they won't fix it. Tweet at them and include @@madebygoogle and all Netflix accounts

Good news: today I checked the Netflix app on my tablet and saw my Chromecast with Google TV device listed. 🙂 I was able to cast a movie from my tablet to the Google TV.  Some progress.

Bad news: the virtual remote still isn't responding in the Netflix app. While the movie was playing,  I checked whether the Google Home app could see that the device is casting, and it does show that something is playing,  although  it doesn't show what it is. When I click Media, it doesn't show that the device is casting at all.

BAD NEWS! I updated Netflix and now the chromecast with Google tv is gone again. What is happening?

After 2 hours of working with Netflix, Google, and then Netflix again we found the basic Netflix plan that is $6.99/month DOES NOT offer casting. Holy smokes. This is not advertised anywhere on their pricing model. To be able to cast you now must upgrade to a higher plan. 

I have the Basic HD plan and this still doesn't work. 

Don't say anything, the casting actually started working again.🫢 I still think the problem is in the Google Home app as far as Netflix not responding to the virtual remote, but I'm now able to cast Netflix to my Google TV.  Now watching Beef and The Night Agent.

Somehow they made this change without notifying the users. Right now I'm able to cast to the Chromecast with Google TV from the Netflix app in my phone. I have to use the phone's Netflix app as the virtual remote to pause, rewind, fast forward, etc. while I'm watching because the Google Home virtual remote still won't recognize the Netflix app in Google TV. Somebody made a change somewhere but didn't do sufficient integration testing to ensure the Google Home app's virtual remote would be able to communicate with the Netflix app.

This is so frustrating! Between yesterday and tonight, I updated the Chromecast with Google TV device, the Google Home app, and the Netflix app. Now when I select the cast icon in Netflix and select the Chromecast with Google TV device, the TV opens to Netflix. (I still can't use the virtual remote to respond on the screen.) However, now when I select a movie to play, I get an error saying "Could not connect to [device name]. SSCR-S4010-2002-N". What is happening now? I'm frustrated and confused. 😠😞

Has anyone come up with a fix yet?  Google physical remote works fine but virtual android remote freezes on profile selection within netflix interface.  Ordered new physical remote...virtual  was working a month ago but not since.

Contacted Netflix AGAIN and after a long chat and 4 emails on "  how to cast or connect to chromecast..."   Their final response (RUDE AS ALWAYS) was that its an issue on Google not them. AND that ended the chat.

So for them " the ball is still on Google's court..."

Virtual remote still not working after two months since the first post. I guess the issue was buried, if it was ever even looked at by Google (not counting those bot answers).

To follow up on my previous troubleshooting post - I was not able to find any particular program that I could clear or reset in order to regain function of the virtual remote in Netflix, even temporarily.

Since the last time I posted, I have noticed that the virtual remote was updated to a newer version. The newer version still suffers from the same issues on Netflix.

Last night I saw a TV ad about using your phone to use the Google TV virtual remote in case you've lost the physical remote. In fact, it said you don't need the physical remote. I say that's false advertisement if you can't use the virtual remote to watch Netflix. It should work for everything like it used to. Is anyone out there listening to us?

Same. Remote works until I open Netflix. Also doesnt work using Home Assistant thorough the Google Remote Service. Either a Netflix App or Remote Service bug. Probably the former.

Still an issue, I don’t even use the app, physical chrome cast remote wont rewind or fast forward on Netflix. Have to unplug tv to maybe get it to work right and that stopped working now. 

We cant even buy a replacement voice remote here in India . Google isnt even disclosing service center details . Product is bought from Flipkart india and when contacted customer care support of google , they say i bought it from sweden ! What a joke

I am also experiencing the Netflix-only paralysis with the mobile remote app.l and have had issues for months  I can't use the physical ones because my dog chews them up.  The verbal commands still work, but sometimes Google decides I don't actually want it to "play" what I told it to "play" and just opens the title.  I can't watch anything on Netflix at all when this happens.  How has this not been fixed?1

As no one has mentioned it yet: Besides Netflix, I have the same problem with Kodi on my Chromecast with Google TV. I can use the Google TV Remote to launch Kodi, but I can't control it (only the home button works).

Months have gone by, and this is still an issue. Today I was forced to search for the physical remote because after the latest Home app upgrade, the VIRTUAL remote stopped working! The problem is happening on all my devices with the Home app installed. I attached a screenshot of the message. Usually you just have to tap Retry, but it's not working. I've already submitted feedback on this. Google, you need to stop tweaking the app until you have everything working right.

I am having the exact same issue and only with Netflix. Google can you please fix this obvious and annoying bug that is clearly effecting multiple users?
