Chromecast Remote Button Setup

siddhartha
Community Member

Hi , i have setup my remote buttons to turn off my tv and control volume of my soundbar ( through IR ) which is connected to chromecast with bluetooth . My issue is that when i setup the remote buttons to do the same , volume control works well for 2 minutes . After that if i change volume through remote , chromecast doesnt send IR signal to soundbar , instead it changes volume of Chromecast. Why this is happening , any solution ?

Hello siddhartha,

Thanks for reaching out. Please try to plug the Chromecast device on a different HDMI port on your TV and try to set up your Voice Remote again by following the steps listed in this support website article

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hey there,

It's me again. I want to make sure you're all good — how did the steps go?

Hi , Thanks for following up on the issue . No this didn't work either . Chromecast remote is not able to turn on/off my tv and soundbar ( connected to chromecast with bluetooth) at the same time . Also even after doing a successful round of setting up IR to control volume of the soundbar through chromecast remote , it works for just a minute thereafter i see remote not able to control soundbar volume via IR , instead it switches to controlling its own volume output to the soundbar . I had a firetv stick too which does turn on/off my soundbar and tv at same time and also controls the volume of soundbar via IR blaster but in case of newly purchased google chromecast i am just able to turn on/off only TV and as I mentioned earlier volume is a task . Seems like chromecast only supports control of volume via ir blaster when soundbar is connected to tv with optical or hdmi but when soundbar is connected to chromecast with bluetooth , the IR blaster wont control the soundbar , tapping volume up / down button on remote will only control chromecast volume .

Hi siddhartha,

Thanks for getting back to us. Could you please try to reset your Chromecast dongle and Voice Remote and check if the same issue will persist?

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer ,

I am travelling out of the city . Will be back to test the solution in a day . Will let you know if this works or not .
Thanks

Ok , so fresh setup doesnt help too .

i noted one thing that the remote will control the volume of the soundbar with IR only if its connected to tv via optical or any other method . If soundbar is connected to chromecast with bluetooth IR wont work , in this case volume buttons will adjust chromecast system volume only .

Now in my case my tv doesn’t have optical connectivity or arc connection so i have only 1 way to connect and that is to have a Bluetooth connection between chromecast and the soundbar .

Now my 3 yr old fire stick does control the power and volume of the soundbar simultaneously but chromecast cannot .

Hi there,

Thanks for trying. Could you please confirm if your Bluetooth speaker is connected under the remote and accessories option in the Google TV? If yes, please also make sure that under the remote setup, IR is selected.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Yes , i checked all settings are perfect . Its the chromecast software update that google need to push to fix this bug .

  • Any solution expected from google on this ? As this is very frustrating having paid premium for a product in india and not getting basic functionality as promised in features of the product

Hi Juni ,

i was actually looking for a solution to my issue . Having paid premium for the product here in India , we expect google to deliver what is promised in the user manual . I was more happy with my firetvstick as it was able to control my tv and soundbar both at the same time . Here it is not able to do so as google isnt allowing IR for soundbars connected to chromecast viz Bluetooth. This is really frustrating as its no where mentioned in product description which could have helped me in making a purchase decision which i regret as of now

Also , would like to mention that ‘one cannot set to power on/off the TV and Soundbar at the same time with IR of chromecast remote .

i have Volume control set to soundbar and power on/off to TV .
i can successfully turn on/off tv with IR but i cannot control volume of soundbar .
Reason is fairly simple - Chromecast doesnt allow to turn volume up or down of soundbar through its IR remote if the soundbar is connected to chromecast via Bluetooth. It controls volume of its own system instead
