Chromecast Remote - power button

scottk

I just converted my Fiber TV to streaming TV utilizing the Chromecast devices. I have 2 TVs that utilize a separate soundbar. Does anyone know if there is a way to program the Chromecast remote to power on both the TV and the soundbar? I can get the remote to power on the TV and use the remote's volume control to control the volume on the sound bar, but it appears that the power button can only be used for 1 device.

Or, as an alternative if the power button cannot be used to power on/off 2 devices simultaneously, is there anyway to program one of the other buttons (such as the Netflix or Youtube buttons) to power on/off a second device?

I want to know that too. Have you been able to get an answer?

Hey there scottk,

I am real sorry about the late response, thank you for your patience!  If you haven't already found the answer to your question, I'd be happy to help out! In the Chromecast with Google TV settings, you can set up the Chromecast Voice Remote to be use via HDMI-CEC or IR. In your case, if you want to control the TV and the soundbar, you'd want to select IR, if your soundbar has an IR reader. Now, I am not sure if they will power on simultaneously, but I imagine you could if you had the two sensors pretty close to each other.

As for the alternative question, at this point in time, there is no way to program the other buttons on the remote to have other functions.

I hope this answers your question, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

My original chromecast has been replaced by Google (though they did want to take me through the restart process for the umpteenth time). The new one has been good and has only frozen once so far and was okay after we unplugged it for a little while. I wonder why troubleshooting information isn’t provided with the device. There was some difficulty with using the replacement device because Google did not return all the items that I returned, but that was eventually resolved.

Thanks,S

Hey there Sweetsweep,

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get that device replaced and it's been working, for the most part! I'll go ahead and leave the thread open for another 24 hours in case scottk still needs help, or if you had any other questions you'd like me to address.

Best regards,

Jeran
