Chromecast Remote

My pal in DC bought me a Chromecast for Xmas (I’m in Canada). I’ve set everything up correctly (my whole house is Google/Nest other than an iPhone), and I cannot get the remote to work (I’ve tried for a month now). Installed, reinstalled, hard reset, take out batteries, hold down home and back buttons…nothing. A dead duck remote and no way to go to some Android app remote as I’m on iOS. 

Should I just toss the Chromecast and file it under junk? Im getting close to it….

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your Voice Remote. 

 

To start, I’ll ask some questions so we can isolate the issue. 

  1. Was anything spilled onto the device?
  2. Were there any attempts to disassemble the device?
  3. Can you confirm if the metal contacts of the battery terminal look contaminated, blocked, or discolored?

Try these steps:

  1. Test the Voice Remote with new or good batteries. Replace the batteries with new ones (1.5 volt AAA batteries). {Note: Change both of the batteries. Do not change only one of them}.
  2. Reinstall the batteries after 5 minutes.
  3. Unpair and reset the Voice Remote, then pair it back.
  4. Factory reset the Chromecast device and factory reset the Voice Remote again.
