Chromecast Setup 1st Gen

We struggled getting a brand new Chromecast setup until we used an iPhone and it worked.

We switched our original Chromecast to a different TV after it lost connection to wifi (customer service instructed us to factory reset, which we did) and now we are Ian endless loop on setup. We have Google home and use it frequently for other devices and our new Chromecast but it will NOT setup or find out original Chromecast.

It is connected, within feet of the WiFi, and is flashing white lights. We get to the setup screen, go through the app "finding" the device and then goes back to the "what device are you setting up?" Screen.

We've tried going to through the website, which instructs you to download the app, we've gone through the app on three different devices which are all updated and it will not work.

We've also manually connected it to the wifi via SSDI as indicated in a previous suggestion.

having the exact same issue. but i know the chromecast is giving off some kind of signal because i can see it in our playstations available networks. just the  Google Home app is not able to pick it up. so frustrating

i have found a solution. Go into your wifi settings on your phone and connect that way to the chromecast (it should be an available wifi). Then just go back into google home and it should work. hope this helps

That was one of the first things we did and it still didn't work for us.

The craziest thing to me is we have Google phones and Google WiFi, yet we cannot setup a Google device via our Google home? Makes zero sense.

Thank you for helping out on this thread, haiam123!

Hey there SdFrazier2012,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is giving you such a headache! In this case, go and follow the steps listed in this article. Since you're using an iPhone, go to the phone's Settings.

  1. Tap Privacy and then Local Network.
  2. You will find a list of apps. You turn on the Local Network Access for the Google Home app.

Regarding the router, be sure that Multicast, UPnP, and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) are enabled on the router.

I hope this helps, if not, please let me know and we can try a few more things.

Best regards,
Jeran
