Chromecast TV has developed an annoying audio delay on streaming channels

nuvz

My Chromecast TV has recently developed an annoying sound delay.  It has been going on for about a week.  I have tried everything I can think of to get it to sync, I have reset, factory reset, unplugged, checked the settings, etc. So far I have not found a solution.  What might I be missing?  I have two and only one of them has this issue.

Thanks for your help!

I have had the same problem for a couple of week.  Netflix, Prime and even YouTube are ok, but YouTube TV has the sync problem.  Happening the same on 2 TVs and 2 chromecast devices. If I view YouTube TV directly from my smart TV no problem.

Looking at my situation again, you are right.  It is mainly YouTube TV. You would think since it is a google service, it would work on a google device.  My Roku tvs are working fine.  Go figure.

Any suggestions for a solution?

When mine does that I change the input on my tv back and fourth and it works. May need to do it a few times.

YES! Mine has the same issue going on for about a month now. All other streaming apps are fine, but Youtube TV slowly drifts out of sync the longer it is on. After an hour or 2 it's horrible. Pressing fast forward, even if you are live, syncs it up again, but that's only a temp fix.

This happens with both of my GCWYTV devices. One device is on my 5G wifi and the other is hardwired.

I've tried factory defaults, resetting my router, rebooting my modem and a bunch of other things. The issue seems like it's Youtube TV.

Yesterday, I got on Google support for Chromcast qnd told them all the troubleshooting steps I've taken and that it only happens with YTTV.  They believed it was not a Chromcast problem so they initiated a sesson with YTTV support.  I don't think the YTTV person was convinced it wasn't a Chromecast problem.  However, the person directed me to use a function of the YTTV app that uploads an information log, particularly about an audio sync problem. The person had me turn on "data for nerds" and take a picture of the screen and forward to her.  She had me run an internet speed test on my phone and send a screen shot to her.  She said my issue would be referred to engineering...but I haven't heard anything back.

Hopefully we don't get the Google Chromecast folks and the YouTube TV folks saying it's the other ones problem.

Thanks!  I hope they get to the bottom of it.  It would seem that it almost has to be a chromecast tv problem since al the roku tvs that I have work fine on youtubeTV. But there I go assuming...

I've been spamming that stuff every day since I know that these forums will barely get noticed

Hey there nuvz,

I just wanted to check up on this thread to see if you had any more questions or concerns that I could address, or if you're good. I look forward to your response!

Thanks Jeran.  Really, nothing has changed.  I have not heard how to fix it and it is still really bad on youtubeTV. I hope someone can help.

No response from YTTV or Chromecast.  I plan to pursue a warantee return of my two chromecast devices.  I bought them to use for YouTube TV and the audio sync problem renders them unusable. Plenty of alternatives.

Hey nuvz,

It does look like this is an issue Google is aware of, and it seems like YouTube TV sent out an update that may have caused this issue. Go ahead and give these steps a try if you're experiencing this problem:

  • Power Cycle the Chromecast by unplugging Chromecast from TV and wall outlet
  • Turn off TV, unplug TV
  • Unplug router 2 to 3 minutes cycle

Let me know if you're running into this issue after trying those troubleshooting steps.

Best regards,

Jeran

When was this update sent out?

Hey there DragonAsh,

My mistake in the last post, there was a recent update which may have *caused* the issue, not resolved it. That was released in an update last week. If you've attempted the troubleshooting I've posted, and you're still experiencing the problem, I'd encourage you to recreate the issue, then submit feedback using the keywords "CCT3 YTTV Audio Out of Sync". That way, the Chromecast and YouTube TV engineering team can locate the feedback reports and work to fix this issue.

I apologize again about my mistake, if you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran

I did submit feedback working with a YTTV tec.  Please see July 1 email below which includes a case #.  Thanks.

Hi there,
This is Cate with the YouTube TV Team. Thanks for the follow-up.
Upon checking, still there's an open ticket with regards to the issue that you've reported. I will send you an email once we receive an update from our engineering team.
As for the case number, here it is: 4-4343000033056
Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Jeran,

I am seeing this issue consistently across many apps, Fubo, Paramount+, Hulu, and I even see it on the Chromcast home screen.

It is frustrating to have to deal with this audio issue. I will gladly submit a feedback if it will help. I just hope that it gets fixed soon.

Thanks again for the help.

Hey there nuvz,

Of course! Submitting feedback is great since it allows the engineering team to access the logs of your devices to see what error is occurring. Make sure that you re-create the bug first, so the errors get logged, then submit feedback.

Thank you for your help as well!

Best regards,

Jeran

I just discovered that if you turn off surrond sound in Chromecast "DISPLAY & SOUND" settings that the problem goes away,  the audio is in sync.   I believe there was a recent release, I(either Chromecast or the app) that introduced an audio sync problem.  Don't know if it is just an incompatiablity with my TV or what.  Could we get some information.

Thanks dbelo7.  I think it is an issue somehow with the tv it is connected to.  The one I was having problems with was a TCL tv.  I gave up on it and moved the ChromecastTV to a non smart tv and have no sync issues. Maybe I'll try it again on the TCL and see if that helps.  Thanks again.

I have both a "dumb" TV and smart TV. Issue is the same with both Chromecasts

I am also seeing this issue with YTTV and I have a 77 LG C1 . On another thread it was said that changing the settings at the TV sound setting from bistream to PCM fixes it but you lose out on 5.1
