Chromecast Ultra HD using Ethernet adapter: NO WIFI

AMTPROD
Community Member

I recently lost my wifi transmitter/router that my Chromecast Ultra HD was streaming from.
I have a cable modem, with ethernet out, and 300mb/s speed (confirmed on computer).

When I try to use the Ethernet/Power adapter for the Ultra HD, I can't get the unit to recognize the ethernet, or more accurately it will only display the "Can't connect to Wi-Fi".

I've gone thru and removed the device, re-installed it, turned all things off, unplugged, re-plugged, followed the exact sequence to use the ethernet adapter a dozen times and still nothing works.

Does this "adapter" still depend on the 'wifi signal' for something?!

What am I doing wrong?

Hi AMTPROD,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please share a photo of your Ethernet adapter? In the meantime, please check this support website article to know more information about using an Ethernet adapter.

No I haven't been able to get this to work via Ethernet.  In reading other posts about this, am I correct in understanding that the Ultra HD 'always' needs wifi to function, and that it merely supplements with ethernet?  Meaning it would never work with ONLY an ethernet connection to the main router?

Hey AMTPROD,

Thanks for getting back to us. You can use your Chromecast Ultra without using Wi-Fi, the Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast lets you connect your device directly to your router through your wired Ethernet connection. If it still doesn't work, please make sure the Ethernet cable is plugged into an available LAN port on your Wi-Fi router. Rebooting your Wi-Fi router and resetting your Chromecast Ultra might also help.

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer.  Thanks for the information, and things to double check.  I am wondering if I was trying one of the other ehternet ports on my Cable Modem, and NOT the wifi-router.  Either way, I will try it again, with everything off, and triple checking that I hook things up and turn on in the right order.  If not, I'll also try re-setting the Ultra HD.
Thanks

Hi Jennifer.  I think the ethernet adapter I got with the unit is the one attached.  Hope that helps.

I went thru the trouble shooting page you linked a few times, and never got it to work at all.

Thanks for your time.
